“Very basic lodging”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

I always consult Trip Advisor before booking a hotel and this trip was no exception. Problem was this was a last-minute trip and any hotels remotely reasonable in price was sold out. So were the bed & breakfast that were 4 stars and up. So I settled for the Beacon Inn despite the 2 1/2 star rating. The rating was dead on. Postives were: price was quite inexpensive, location near Kenmore square and right by the T stop was ideal for us, employees were helpful and nice, beds & pillows were very comfortable. Negatives: We had clean sheets and towels, but comforters, rugs & floors were very dingy and obviously hadnt been well cleaned in quite some time. Beautiful building but upkeep was definitely lacking-- everything looked shabby.

“This place is disgusting”

I never write hotel reviews but this place is horrible. It's dingy, dirty, and smelled like urine. The maid never showed up to clean our room. I keep checking myself to see if I have bedbug bites because I itched most of the night. So far no bites but I'm still very afraid they will show up. Even the wireless service was unreliable. Do NOT stay here.

“Extremely helpful staff, very convenient location for our BU visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2011

This was our first visit to Boston. We were visiting BU for their open house. We selected the Beacon Inn primarily because of location and value-price. After our stay, we will select the Beacon Inn because of their quality in service, room cleanliness, and their convenient location. We are glad we selected this B&B as our first hotel in Boston. We were not disappointed at all. Old world charm with modern amenities.

“Best location and value for a visit to Boston University.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2011

I have stayed at the Beacon Inn several times now in order to visit my son who attends Boston University. The location is convenient to the T and to a variety of stores and restaurants. The staff has always been helpful and the price is reasonable by Boston standards.

Room Tip: Call the hotel directly to reserve your room.

“Make sure your bathroom is not across the hall when you book!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

I stayed at the Beacon Inn for one night last weekend. My room was tiny and depressing, made worse by the fact that the bathroom was across the hall. Although my friend had paid exactly the same price she had a huge room with an ensuite bathroom. It had not been made clear to me when I made the booking that the bathroom was not attached so naturally I was annoyed. The room was also freezing. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly and pleasant. It's not a great location but accessible by subway.
