Wow! What a perfect stay in Savannah! ...considering the circumstances. :)
My husband and I never stay anywhere without reading TripAdvisor. I love it when I get a really complete review, so I am going to do my best to cover a lot in this, to give back to those that have taken the time to review for me! Thanks! Hang with me if you are thinking about coming here; I'm going to cover it all! :) You'll be glad you read this!
This trip to Savannah was a real treat and splurge for us. We hadn't been away from the kids in years, and we just really wanted alone time. Therefore, we chose to pick one of the best bed and breakfast places we could find. Initially, we found another one that we thought looked perfect, but many of the reviews reported a "frosty feel" from the innkeepers. So, when I found President's Quarter Inn, I loved that so many people wrote that the inn was so welcoming. They were so right! Thank you Tripadvisor and tripadvisor reviewers!
Before the trip I emailed and called several times to find the "perfect" room, asking questions, and my husband even ordered flowers, chocolate, and champagne in the room ahead of time. (They were beautiful and yummy!) Each time we contacted them, they were friendly, helpful, and so personable. They never acted like we were a pain. We immediately felt like we had chosen the perfect place.
Pulling up to the inn, we loved the on-site parking, and once we parked, we stayed there for the long, three-day weekend. It was so great, as parking in Savannah can be a chore.
We were like little kids, so excited as we walked into the beautifully landscaped courtyard, complete with a gazebo and pumpkins and flowers to make it festive. The trees offered a lovely respite from the sun, and it felt so private and intimate. I remember last year when we walked by the inn, thinking I wasn't sure if it looked as nice as I had read, but you have to stay there to really understand how beautiful it is. The courtyard is one of the best, and I/we used it so much.
The innkeeper and several other employees greeted us, and we felt right at home. They offered ideas for lunch, and then gave us a parking pass, despite us arriving early.
After lunch they showed us up to our room and it was the best room we have ever stayed in, and we have done much traveling! It was huge, had large windows, a beautifully decorated bed and matching color scheme throughout the room, and a lovely balcony. The bathroom was roomy, modern, and so clean! In fact, I have stayed in several bed and breakfast places, and I have never seen such a clean inn or hotel. It felt like cleanliness was a priority, and every part of the inn seemed polished. The elevator was also a huge plus! I can't really do justice to how perfect the room was.....I already miss it! (and the bed was comfortable!)
Unfortunately, my husband got quite ill that first day, and our trip was hampered by his illness. However, we both agreed that if he had to get ill, this was as close to "home" as we could have felt. I was in the office a great deal, asking for extras, help with our situation, and just had lots of questions. They guided us to a wonderful doctor at Urgent Care of Historic Savannah, and it was such a blessing that it was only steps from our inn. The doctor left a dinner party on Friday night to come and attend to my husband at 10 pm that night. We were so grateful to both the inn and the doctor, as this trip made a huge difference in how he felt.
In addition, we were blessed that the innkeeper and her staff did not treat us as a hinderance; instead coming to our room personally to ask if they could make him a special breakfast. In fact, they provided him a special meal each morning to accommodate his needs. Each of the inn workers were lovely and friendly, and when you don't feel well, it is so wonderful that they could treat us as if we were such important guests. I can imagine that some places we could have stayed would have rather not dealt with an ill guest, but we never got that feeling.
Because I did feel well, each morning I enjoyed the delicious regular breakfast they offered, and I had a bit of everything! One morning I had the homemade granola, fresh fruit, and yummy bread, with coffee and juice, and the other mornings, I enjoyed fluffy pancakes, sausage, and a biscuit, and another day I had eggs, the best bacon I have ever tasted, and grits. I noticed that several reviewers commented on the small breakfast area, but the great thing about this inn is that they have you sign up for a time, and so you only eat with a few other people, which is lovely! And, the best part is they bring it to you, so you don't have to do a thing! Service was once again, superb! The weather was outstanding, and so we go to eat in the beautiful courtyard, complete with tablecloths and flowers at our table. Everyone I talked to at the inn, raved about what a lovely breakfast they provided. A couple of ladies from Chicago said it was the best place they had ever been. It just seemed to bring out the best in everyone; everyone just seemed to feel like it was so special.
One of the areas that I used the most on the trip was the beautiful balcony (four rooms have balconies), complete with comfortable chairs and a nice sized coffee table. Plants adorned the sides, and the trees felt like a canopy, creating a great place to read (which I did more than I normally would have, as I cared for my hubby). One beautiful evening I got to watch a lovely intimate wedding of one of the guests. They married in the gazebo, and I told my husband what a great place to have a wedding. The inn offers a variety of great packages, I saw online. My husband told me I needed to yell down, "Remember this is for better or worse, and worse is being stuck with a sick husband on a trip you have looked forward to for forever!" :) I had to laugh.
Our room was also very quiet. I never heard other guests, although when you are in Savannah in such a great location, you will ultimately hear people outside occasionally. With prime location in the heart of it all, that is just a part of Savannah, but it was not bad at all. As other reviewers say, "The location can not be beat!"
One other plus was the way the staff was available to make any reservation you needed. Unfortunately, because my husband was ill we were unable to get out much, but we saw other couples and groups taking advantage of this. They were so helpful!
I had read lots of reviews from people that talked about how romantic the inn is..they are so right! It is just small enough to have such a private feel to it, and if you don't need help, the staff really does let you enjoy privacy. It was perfect. I had looked at other inns that offered more "together time" like at breakfast, and I just thought The President's Quarter Inn was so perfect to have alone time.
The wine and appetizer time was also lovely. They offered three different wines every night, and a variety of yummy snacks. The turn down service with sweet treat was also great. That was the best shortbread I have ever had! They think of everything to make your time perfect.
Oh.....because my husband was ill, he did end up in bed watching a bit more tv than either one of us would like, but he was glad to see that the tv was fine, and they had a myriad of cable channels, including ESPN and ESPN 2. However, normally tv would not be at the top of our list, but it was fine. :)
Sadly, the trip that we had looked forward to for months actually turned into quite a bummer because my husband never really felt like doing much at all. He was a trooper and tried to do some stuff for me, but I knew it was just not to be, but we made the most of it. However, what is really a blessing and silver lining of the long weekend was The President's Quarter Inn and the innkeeper, Jane Sales, and the entire staff. I hope I get all their names right: Anna, Marie, and Tiffany were those I saw the most, I think. They were the best of the best! We do look back with obvious regret for what the trip could have been, but after staying many (7) different places in Savannah in the past, we now know where we will come when we get to visit our favorite city again. There really is no place like The President's Quarter Inn!
We thank every person, (even the hard working maid staff that cleaned our room immaculately every day!) for making our trip the best it could have been, considering the circumstances. As my husband said, "These people know how to make a guest feel like they are the most important people in the world."
Blessings for all you do! We will be back! :) Thank you!
I peeked in quite a few of the rooms as they were being cleaned, and they were all great. If you ca...
