I stayed here for three days on a business trip. This hotel was selected by my employer. First, the positives: the hotel is in a great location on the inner harbor. It is nicely decorated and clean, and the room was large. The service was pleasant. There was a better than usual selection of tv stations (I've never stayed at a hotel where I could watch hockey on the NHL network before). My employer had made special arrangements for some additional amenities, to include an in-room fridge and microwave, free internet, and complimentary breakfast. (According to the hotel website, they normally charge $12.95 per day for in-room high speed internet access, which seems ridiculous these days.) For the first couple of days, I thought I could over look the negative, which was the noise problem. Specifically, the first noise problem is the lack of sound proofing between the hallway and room. People in the hallway speaking in a normal conversational voice sound as if they are right in your room. The second problem is the doors, which slam shut behind you unless you make an actual effort to close them gently. The first two nights, this was not too much of a problem, because the hotel did not seem too full and after 10pm there wasn't much hallway traffic. But on the third evening, a huge group of high school students arrived for a conference. From 9pm-1am that night, I was treated to a seemingly never ending chorus of hallway voices, backed by a symphony of slamming doors. Earplugs failed to block the noise, and when in bed and nearby doors would slam, I could actually FEEL the vibrating "thud". I should emphasize that although these were large groups of teens, they were in no way misbehaving or being rowdy. They were simply doing what most travelers do in a hotel- speaking to their companions and letting their room door close behind them. But in this hotel, these simple actions from a large group of people were ridiculously disruptive and made for a miserable attempt at getting a decent nights' sleep. For this reason, I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone sensitive to noise. On most of my previous trips to Baltimore, I have stayed at the Residence Inn on Light St. (see prior reviews). I would continue to recommend that hotel by comparison- full kitchen, free internet and breakfast (for everyone, not just by special arrangement), and no slamming doors.
