“Shabby accomodation, tattered, run down, deteriorated and thoroughly disgusting.”
We had the misfortune of staying at this B&B for four nights. Our reservation was made for us by my brother who lives nearby and last put up a guest there seven years ago. He assured us that it was "charming" when he last visited (seven years ago). We were greeted by a young man (who rapidly disappeared thereafter) with an envelop and a key to presumably the best (and I might add the most expensive) room. Torn dirty window shades, cracked and peeling paint, insulation stuffed in window frames, broken bathroom shelf, broken furniture, 12 inch TV not visible from the bed. Electric outlet gave choice of TV or small refrigerator, not both. No bath tub, but no matter as there was no hot water. Broken hair dryer required emergency trip to the breakfast room at 8AM to find the "attendant" as the telephone didn't work and calling the number provide for help on my cell phone received no answer. Coarse bedding, pillows like lead, and incredibly noisy heating. No bread at breakfast until the next day after we requested toast. (The attendant said that most people preferred English muffins so they didn't have bread.) Plastic sealed individual cheese slices at breakfast. Congealed individual grape jelly packets (I would estimate there age at 3-5 years). By chance we saw a less expensive room being cleaned when leaving the premises late on our third morning. It had a bathtub so we switched. Although nearly as run down and shabby, it had hot water (presumably as it was on the opposite side of the building and nearer the hot water heater) and a TV set that could be seen from the bed. I would guess there has been no maintenance in this facility for about 5-7 years.
