“Location saves it”

My husband, I and our 7 yr. old stayed one night at the Hampton Inn at the end of December 2011. We selected it due to it's proximity to the Harbor. It is 2 blocks away which is a real plus. The hotel lobby was somewhat spacious. They lose some space due to the stairs that lead down to the pool located right in the middle of the lobby. Breakfast is in the lobby. The buffet was confined to a corner in the lobby which made maneuvering alittle difficult. Breakfast was cereals, juices, breads and really dry eggs (my son's review). The room was nice sized with 2 queens beds. The ceilings are very high so that makes it seem bigger. The beds were not very comfortable. At one point, my son was jumping from bed to bed and the mattress slid off the boxspring. I realize he should not have been doing that, but the mattress had no weight to it. It was not comfortable to sleep on. The bathroom was nice sized..good shower. The walls were dingy. I could hear people in the hall from my room. Our toilet clogged and the room phone did not work. I had to call the front desk from my cell phone. They came promptly with the plunger but did not seem interested in fixing phone.
I can't remember how much they charge for parking but the valet was nice enough to tell us about a cheaper lot a few blocks away. We were able to leave our car there overnight.
The aquarium is great. Very helpful docents and lots to see. The B & O Train museum which was a 10 minute drive away is a must see if you have train enthusiasts. There happened to be a miniature train show there when we visited and that was so much fun. The train museum is inside a huge roundhouse and has trains outside as well. You can board the trains.
We tried to have lunch at Phillips (when in Baltimore..have crabs) but the wait was too long. We headed to Dick's Last Resort on a pier near the aquarium, which is a kitschy place where the waiters are rude and insult you and throw straws at you. What more could a 7 yr. old want?? Food is a slight step up from bar food.

“Great Stay at this Downtown Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We stayed here in November 2011 for a long weekend with our 4 kids...

Hotel is located right off the Purple Line Connector Bus and is a mere 5 minute walk to the Inner Harbor area with it's wide array of restaurants/shopping/entertainment/Aquarium...

Hotel is very modern and is actually built in what used to be a Leading Bank in Baltimore...

We were given a room on the historic top floor and the room was very nice and roomy...Never heard any noise per what other reviews had said, and we stayed on a weekend as well...

Breakfast was accommodating and a little tight since it was very busy that weekend...

The best thing for my family was the very warm heated indoor swimming pool..we spent a lot of time in the evening there since it was one of the warmest indoor pools of any Hilton property that I've stayed at...

Would stay there again when traveling into Baltimore Downtown area...

“Good location for the price”

We stayed at the hotel for a quick visit to Baltimore. The hotel was in a great location, only about 2 blocks from the Inner Harbor. The hotel is about a mile walk from the Mt. Vernon neighborhood and a little bit more of a walk to the Federal Hill neighborhood. The hotel was nice, the staff very friendly. We didn't utilize the valets but they seemed like a nice group of guys who didn't mind holding our keys while we checked in. We ended up parking at a self-service place just around the block. The rooms were quite spacious with huge bathrooms. The bed linens were interesting. When we first got into the room I didn't know what was wrong with the bed as it appeared to be all lumpy - apparently this is part of their comfy bed experience. I'm not sure it made for a more comfortable experience but it was memorable.

“Nice for family but..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We had great service and very pleasant staff- with the exception of the pool. The person who was at the pool; (cant say life guard because they were fully dressed and working on a computer) but was irritated because he had a break sign up which was literally at the top of a 6 or 7 ft door- we didnt notice the sign until he came over and pointed to it- and then said come in. Then the pool was COLD--as in not heated. The whole reason we choose this hotel is because my daughter wanted to swim. We put are legs and and left when the two girls lips turned purple. Pool also was in need of repair - peeling floor. The rest of the hotel was A+++.
