“Clean but poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Because I was traveling for business a separate business account was used to pay for part of my stay, I had to make the reservation over the phone. When I arrived at the hotel, however, I was informed that I had to pay more than twice what I was quoted over the phone when I made the reservation. The woman at the front desk said that she'd look into it, but we never heard from anyone again. On check out, we brought this up again and were told it would be addressed. However, we were still changed more than twice the quoted amount.

However, the hotel was very clean. The shuttle service, while limited in its destinations, was always on time and helpful.

“The room needed updating!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The location very very good. Near everything in the Harbour. Room was small, and very dated. The toliet was old and rusted. Not a good value for what we paid per night. Heating unit was so noisy that you would have to turn up the Tv everytime it came on. Sliding glass door was old the cold air would come right though. We expected a larger room for the amount that they charge. Next time will look for another hotel in the area. Nothing free here only a cup of coffee in the morning in the lobby. Oh, also I got suck in the elevated , it would not go to the second floor. No one answers at the front desk so you have to go to the lobby if you have a question. Not happy!

Room Tip: Look for another hotel!

“Honeymoon @ Inner Harbor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My wife and I decided to stay at Pier 5 for our honeymoon. We were treated well and given quite a few coupons and perks upon check in. The room was fantastic, the hotel was very beautiful. I loved the location.

I wasn't impressed with the restaurant, McCormick & Schmicks in the hotel, but besides that I have absolutely no complaints.

The food service was quick, and good too!

“A Bit Tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

"Tired" is the best descriptor of our stay at the Pier 5. It describes both the decor and our state when we left the hotel due to the ceaseless running of the heating unit. With some updating, this could be an outstanding hotel. The location is perfect--halfway between the Inner Harbor and Fell's Point. There are numerous great restaurants and activities within walking distance or via the free bus (Charm City Circulator). Also, the views of the harbor are nice. The lobby is a great place to sit with friends plus Crabby hour cant be beat. If you don't want to go out for breakfast, there is a reasonably priced buffet in the lobby. Parking is also reasonably priced for the area. Lastly, the staff are terrific. We hope that management will do some renos so that we can return.

“Central location, personable staff, and unique "extras"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Overall the experience was pleasant. We too - similar to other reviewers, used a Groupon. Despite not paying full price, we were treated as any other customer and received all of the promised coupons for drinks and towards dinner. We attended the first night the "Crabby Friday", where a crepe making session was held. The 'chef' made the event enjoyable and his humor encouraged people to participate. We did not attend the Saturday Chocolate gathering, though we would have enjoyed this 'extra.' Our room was clean and comfortable. It faced the front of the hotel, and though part of the view was hampered as well by construction, looking to the side was a wonderful scenic view of the Harbor. Guests were given an opportunity to "Go Green" by choosing not to have the room made up, and we did take advantage of that option. My only two "negatives" were the fact that upon arrival on a Friday afternoon there was no doorman. As my husband unloaded the car, I had to find a luggage cart and manipulate the entrance. The cart was not that easy for me to push, but I needed to do so to clear the doorway. There was no valet parking person around either. It did not seem a very welcome way to enter the hotel. However, the front desk employees were exceptionally friendly, which made up for this first impression. My second 'negative' was the perfume scented spray used in both the rooms and the hallways. It was so overpowering that my eyes were watering. The front desk, with an apology, said that there were no rooms where this spray was not used by the maids. For this reason, the first night and through the next day we needed to keep the sliding glass door partially open to 'air' out the room. It was fine by the middle of the next day.
Finally, the hotel is immediately next to the Aquarium and other locations which make the Harbor much fun for tourists.
