“Indian Lodge. Do not miss this wonderful historic site in the Davis Mountains.”

We were more than pleased with our stay at the Lodge. Everyone was super helpful. Rooms in the original section were unique. They were built by the CCC in the 1930's.Also located higher than than the newer sections giving good views.
They had been recently renovated. Lovely covers on the beds with southwestern theme throws. The outdoor sitting areas individual to the area you were in. Wonderful for enjoying sunrise/sunsets. Lots of quiet sitting area throughout the resort. Test them all.
Keep in mind that you are in a remote area, so eating at the resaurant is really a good choice.
Good food and reasonable prices. Breakfast was one of the best ever-perfect hash browns, fabulous eggs watching the sun rise thru the windows.
DO NOT miss Skyline Drive. Looking down on the Lodge nestled in the Mountains is almost like a mirage.

Room Tip: Rooms in the old section are great.because they have the original furnishings and thick walls. We w...

“Very pleasant, will return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Stayed two nights - very pleasant place. Rooms wee clean, the facility nicely maintained, the staff helpful. And the price (stayed there after schools had started) was reasonable. While there was free internet, it was not consistently available through out the Lodge

“Wonderful place to stay”

My family had a great time staying at Indian Lodge, which is in the middle of Fort Davis State Park. Even though wild fires had swept through the area, the park and lodge were spared, and wildlife was everywhere - driving back one night, we saw javelinas, deer, and even a gray fox! The park rangers and staff were very friendly and helpful.

The Lodge itself was very impressive. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is very reasonably priced. The pool was great for the hot day, but in the mornings and late evenings, it is cool enough to sit out under the stars. If you can, try to get one of the older rooms, as there are more balcony/patio areas and seating, and the floor plan felt like a maze for the kids to explore.

As for local activities, there is a great deal of family friendly stuff to do. The star parties at the McDonald Observatory was outstanding, and is a quick, beautiful drive to and from the state park along Hwy 118. Getting back late is no problem, the park was open, just drive slower and watch for wildlife. There is a great deal of hiking and scenic drives in the area. For horseback riding, check out Prude ranch, also on Hwy 118. There are some neat shops and restaurants in the heart of Fort Davis. (For anyone wondering, Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park are about 2.5 hours away.)

Overall, it was a great stay. I can't wait to go back with the family.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the original rooms. 124 was very nice.

“A highly enjoyable experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

We stayed at the Indian Lodge for one night following a road trip to Big Bend National Park. Davis Mountains State Park, where Indian Lodge is located, is cooler and greener than Big Bend, but the best part of this Park is the Lodge. Indian Lodge is a restored CCC facility that is a gem of the Texas parks system. We stayed in one of the original rooms, which was furnished with original CCC hand-crafted furniture. It was a delightful experience. The restoration of the buildings was well-done, respectful to the original design and materials and updated tastefully. The views all around from the many balconies and walkways, as well as the rooms, are truly wonderful--not spectacular but lovely. The food in the restaurant is pedestrian, but the service is quite good. I can see why people return over and over to this place. A great getaway.

Room Tip: Request a room in the original section.
