“A Guarded Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

No doubt about it, this is a very good hotel and we enjoyed our stay very much. The only reservation (no pun intended) I'd have about giving an unqualified 5 would be about the construction. The floors throughout (meaning the rooms as well) are some sort of laminated wood (like Pergo). It seems cheap & it's already buckling in spots - and it makes for a cold room in any season but summer. The grout in the shower was already starting to fall out, as well, even though the hotel is relatively new. I expected better from what is obviously a quality establishment.

On the upside, the room was very spacious and well-equipped - right down to the binoculars for river watching. The bathroom was huge by hotel standards, and the bed was really comfortable. I'd also suggest you take advantage of the vintage Caddy, if you can.

“Best Hotel on the Coast”

My girlfriend and I took an impromptu trip to the coast for the weekend. I called up the day before and asked if they had any last-minute specials and they did not disappoint. This was out 2nd stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel and each time has been great. The service is very friendly and feels like a family-run place ( not sure if it is ) We checked in during happy hour and were offered wine and they had a selection of cheeses, crackers and smoked salmon out to snack on.

After we settled in we had them make us a reservation at Fulio's which is a decent Italian option in town. They have a small fleet of vintage Cadillacs set up to drive guests to and from dinner. Our driver was very friendly and knowledgable about Astoria and recommended plenty of places for us to try.

After dinner we came back and were greeted with warm cookies in the lobby which were delicious.

Our room was a king sized on the top floor with an amazing view of the river and Astoria bridge. Even though the weather was stormy, it was still great to stand on the balcony and enjoy the view. There is also a bench in the room with binoculars if you want to sit and peer out for longer.

The room is very comfortable with a wonderful bed topped with high quality linens and blankets. The bathroom features a huge claw-foot tub and a glassed-in shower as well. There are high quality toiletries and a double sink with vanity. Everything is very clean and well thought out. There is also a love seat and small table with chairs if you need them. The armoir houses a 27" LCD TV which is hooked to satellite feed.

Overall, it's a beautiful building with very friendly and accommodating staff. It can be a little pricey but when considering how expensive some other options are on the Oregon coast, it's worth it to me.

“Don't think, just book!”

I have been traveling for business and pleasure for more than thirty years and this is one of the most pleasant hotels I have ever stayed at. Rooms are fabulous, the views are unbeatable, and the staff is helpful and pleasant. Although the most expensive property in Astoria, it's worth it. Let's face it, you're on vacation, splurge a little and pamper yourself.

“Modern luxury on the water; a top choice in Astoria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I was very impressed by my all-too-brief stay at this hotel. The architects did a nice job creating historic ambience in what appears to be a thoroughly new building built on the footings of an old cannery pier. All of the guest rooms face the water, so you can't go far wrong there. On arrival, the front desk staff poured me a glass of complimentary wine to make me feel welcome. Sadly, really crappy January weather limited the view from my king room on the top floor. Luxury touches in the spacious room included a gas fireplace. I could not resist the inviting window bench with complimentary binoculars. It was too stormy to take advantage of the room's small balcony overlooking the water. In the bathroom there was an oversize tub and a separate glass shower stall. The free breakfast buffet mostly featured the usual items you can find at midscale chains, except the donuts tasted fresher and the fruit cocktail did not appear to come entirely from a can. I can heartily recommend this establishment.

“Can't wait to return!”

Visiting from Australia, we stayed for two nights just after Christmas and wished we had booked for a longer stay. From the moment we arrived, the staff couldn't do enough to make us feel at home-it was so nice to have 'real' help in choosing a great place to eat (see the Urban Cafe) The rooms are wonderful-spacious, well decorated, with lovely amenities (including fabulous toiletries). The views are incredible-whatever the weather. The lobby and public areas are truly inviting-you feel as if you are in your own living room (I wish mine were as well decorated though!) The afternoon drinks are a lovely touch, and it's great to be able to stroll down in the morning for a delicious waffle or doughnut, and great coffee. We will definitely return on our next visit to Oregon.

Room Tip: We stayed in a ground floor room which was recommended to us by the staff as we arrived during a sto...
