I must say, I was a little weary of this hotel after reading some of the more negative reviews on this site. However, I was very pleasantly surprised for a number of reasons. The room was only $99 a night and included two queen size beds. Compared to other hotels in Astoria, Rivershore is quite cheap.
First, for the negatives:
- No A/C. However, I was here just a few days ago (middle of July) and the room was quite comfortable at night. There are two windows in the room, one facing the highway and the other facing the back of the hotel. Obviously, you don't want to leave your valuables vulnerable by leaving the front window open. However, with just the back window open, the room was quite comfortable. There is a heater in the room for the winter months.
- The noise is definitely the worst part of the room. The motel is right off a highway, and traffic seems to never cease. I slept in the front room (near the highway) and had no trouble sleeping. However, if you normally need total quiet to sleep then it might be smart to bring either headphones or foam earplugs.
Overall, the hotel was very clean. The furniture is dated but certainly clean.
The continental breakfast consisted of Orange Juice/Coffee, and various Otis Spunkmeyer muffins and packaged danishes. Not extensive at all, but a good snack. I went down towards the last 30 minutes of breakfast and the supply was full. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful throughout the whole stay and did an excellent job replenishing the breakfast supply.
By the way, they only give soap (no shampoo or conditioner), so be sure to bring the two.
Overall, I would recommend this place for Astoria. It's far cheaper than a lot of the other hotels (many of which seem to be of similar quality), and everything was clean. What more can you want?
