We decided to do a quick weekend get away. We booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Astoria, Oregon. Never having been there before we were very happy when we arrived. This is a newer hotel right under the Astoria Bridge on the Columbia River.

We got a king suite with a river view and gas fireplace for the same price as a regular river view/gas fireplace room.

While you may find a cheaper price in a cut rate hotel in the area you would not find the view this hotel had. It was a mid-range price, and about 1/2 the cost of a nearby high end hotel, and there wasn't a thing we missed by not being at the more expensive one (we have stayed there in the past).

Nice accommodations, great relaxing view watching the river and big ships (and sea lion).

Check in and out were quick and painless.

Next time we can do a get-a-way we are planning to stay here again.

We were very happy with our stay at the Holiday Inn in Astoria. The hotel is right at the base of the bride that crosses the Columbia River to Washington. The ships that come in or out go right in front of the hotel so close you can darn near swim out to touch them. Though I wouldn't advise it. The view from the hotel is great, though it's not the ocean, its still spectacular. The person at the front counter was pleasant and friendly. The entire grounds were very clean, the hotel had good parking, well lit and easy to find. The inside of the hotel was clean. Our room was beautiful with a window overlooking the river. We were on the fourth floor. We were able to open the window and hear the waves gently lapping onto the shore all night. The ships that come in and out are extremely quiet. It's amazing actually how quiet they are. The bed was comfortable, the shower was fantastic, hot, good water pressure, etc. We didn't do breakfast there but went out instead but the hotel breakfast is the standard high carb spread (though again was clean looking and presented well). We chose a local restaurant recommended by the front desk clerk on our checking out. I highly recommend this facility. It was very much appreciated compared to some of the places we have stayed at in Astoria.

The room was very nice and the view of the river great. We enjoyed the continental breakfast. Will be back again.

This is our second time staying at this hotel and we will absolutely be back. The location is great and it is an easy drive to anywhere in Astoria from this hotel. Both times we have stayed here, we have had a room with a fireplace and a great view of the river. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The beds are comfortable and the hotel is nice and quiet. The room where breakfast is served has a great view of the river as well. For the location and room, the rate can't be beat. The front desk staff is very friendly and attentive. You won't go wrong staying here.
