I will admit I did not choose this hotel as it was a business trip. Quite honestly, I'm not sure why anyone would choose Jacksonville as a destination if not for business, visiting family or seeing a sporting event. I don't mean offense by that statement, there are just bigger destinations in Florida with more to do and see, however that's not what this review is about ---- apart from those opinions, my opinion about the hotel is very high!
Check-in was as pleasant as it usually gets at a nice hotel, I wouldn't say anyone went above and beyond, though I guess in retrospect I didn't give them the chance to. The real attraction was the room, BEAUTIFUL! From the floor plan to execution the room was unique and yet very familiar, a very nice blend of the two. As you can see from most pictures of the rooms they have very nice "shot" type coffee makers in the room though I wasn't blown away by the coffee it was certainly better than other in-room coffee makers. The best part about the room is a dead heat between the awesome bathroom and the AMAZINGLY comfortable bed.
The bathroom is just beautiful --- it was spacious with very nice fixtures. The shower did not have a door or a curtain, an interesting design. It did have a stool which at first I thought was ridiculous but it actually turned out to be convenient. The shower head was very nice which made it all the more enjoyable. The bed, I honestly looked for a brand name on the mattress so I could file it in my memory banks for next time I'm in the market for one --- it's THAT comfortable!
Outside of that the room was nice, nice desk, nice little arm chair, nice flat screen TV, nice dresser. Nothing extravagant in these areas but no disappointment to be found. Our company did utilize the on-site catering services and the food was of the Mexican variety, all very pleasing, well presented and good taste. We also utilized the bar, which, in my opinion is in a weird spot. I understand why they did it but being on the other side of the table, did not enjoy it. The bar was next to the check-in desk right in the lobby and while it's conveniently located you can't help but feel you're on display as you patronize it. The staff that manned it were nice enough, no outstanding service in my opinion but certainly better than most.
I did order breakfast for room service and while it wasn't bad it really wasn't great. Had the traditional eggs, sausage, bacon and fruit. All of which wasn't piping hot nor very tasty. For the prices, it should have at the bare minimum been steaming hot. I would have been okay with them microwaving it if that's what it took.
They also seemed to serve small food items at the bar as there is no traditional restaurant on-site to my knowledge, however outside there were restaurants which looked halfway-decent. My taste buds were drawn to the Jimmy Johns which was a 5 minute walk from the hotel door. Brought it to my room and enjoyed on the arm chair.
All in all, a lovely visit, I will definitely check to see if a Hotel Indigo is in the area of my future personal vacations but it's safe to say I will not be visiting this one in Jacksonville, not at the fault of the hotel but because outside of your company telling you that you need to go, I don't see a reason to visit otherwise.
