I travel for business and decided to save my client some money. The reviews of the Jameson Inn were decent and it was reasonably close to where I needed to be so I tried it. The cost was $50 per night less than I usually pay at my regular "business class" hotel in Jacksonville. Here are my observations:
Cleanliness: GOOD Looks clean and well-maintained.
Safety and Security: QUESTIONABLE, maybe even RISKY Visible security cameras in the hallway are somewhat reassuring but give the halls a prison/institutional look. Doors at the far ends of the first floor often propped open and accessible by anyone from the outside. My electronic room keys failed to open the room door often. I had to try them multiple times to get them to work and returned to the desk frequently to get them reprogrammed.
Ameneties: GOOD Pool looks nice but did not use it. Gym looks to be reasonably equipped but did not use it either. Breakfast in the lobby is simple but adequate. You can make your own waffels, cereal, biscuits and gravy, etc. Free wi-fi was average speed, not as fast as my home networks but better than many of the business hotels I stay in.
Clientelle: Mixture of older and younger budget travelers and tradesmen. The parking lot was dominated by pickups and other trucks during the week.
Noise: Noise from oustside was not an issue. Room walls were thin and you could definitely hear even low-level talking through them. I lived a significant portion of my life in New York City and am immune to noise for the most part so it was OK for me. It may not be OK for some who are more sensitive to noise.
Room: Tiny bathroom. Small, but adequate room overall. Furniture a bit worn and tired but in decent shape. Older tube-style TV. Small microwave, large refrigerator, hair dryer, coffee maker in room. Towels were a bit skimpy but they worked for me.
Bed: Fantastic! One of the reasons I moved here from my regular hotel was that I was waking up with a stiff back at the other hotel. The king sized bed at this hotel was just right for me. No more stiff back from the first night on. I am 10 nights into a 25-night stay and so far the back is doing great!
Bottom line: Good budget hotel. Nothing special, but it worked. Over the 24-night stay I saved my client nearly $1,400 in cost as compared with the business class place I usually stay. Noise may be an issue for some but was not for me. Safety and Security was questionable. I had no bad first-hand experiences but the open side doors was risky. Great bed!
