“Great Choice for the Business Traveler”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Travelled to Jacksonville, FL for a business meeting and did not want to stay in town. The Sheraton was a great choice just fifteen minutes from downtown. The rooms were very well appointed, plasma TV, free Internet, and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and the housekeepers were very polite even though they interrupted an afternoon nap. I haven't found better accomodations for the money and would recommend it to my colleagues.

“Great Location, One of the Better Hotels in JAX”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Jacksonville "proper" is limited in nice hotels, but this is a very nice location and nicer than most Sheratons (SPG property). There's also a little lake behind the property that adds some kind of view from their bar/restaurant.

The restaurant is actually very good. It's kind of a bar/restaurant area. Full bar, tends to get a little noisy at night. The bartenders aren't rude, just not interested. It's really a business hotel, so it closes early. The restaurant food is good - fresh, great waitstaff. American menu. However, note: for breakfast, they have a buffet that's a little pricey - around $16 with tip. You can get a menu and just get eggs, bacon, toast, etc...for a little less $$, but it's not obvious. You also have to fairly aggressively ask for any drink other than coffee or juice. Room service is available, too, which is nice.

The rooms are really nice: clean, roomy, and we had a view of the lake/pond. I keep looking for gators (there's a sign there that says they could be there), but I have yet to see one other than at the zoo! The rooms also have a great, very large work desk that has all the plugs you need. WiFi signal is very good, too. It was a little noisy as I think they were doing outside repairs, and we were next to the housekeeping room.

There's a heated indoor pool, too. Very clean. Also a nice, small gym with a couple of treadmills and free weights.

In the lobby, there's a great kiosk of large-monitor computers free to use as a guest, with a printer for work/boarding passes, etc...there was never a line to use them, so we actually used them to look up places to visit while there.

Staff is VERY friendly and helpful. Overall, great hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for high floor (away from bar), and away from end of hall where housekeeping staff keeps supplie...

“Whattya gonna do?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

There are very limited choices for hotels in JAX - so the standards are low. If you don't expect too much then you will not be disappointed. The good - the beds are comfortable and the bar food isn't bad. The bad - thin walls and (very) loud heat / ac units. The workout equipment is minimal and why do they even bother with the concierge lounge?

Room Tip: Avoid the suite upgrade - right next to the elevator shaft and very noisy!

Dear Roadwarrior124,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us and your fellow travelers. I am disappointed to read about your expectations not being met concerning thin wall and noisy ac units. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience as a result to you.

I will not make excuses. We accommodate many guests every night and the property is less than four years old and perceptions like yours are not the normal response to this property. The property fitness room includes state of the art equipment including 2 treadmills, a step master and stationary bike; all with TV monitors. It also includes free weights and bench for workouts that include resistance training as well as an area for stretching and staying with your normal fitness routine.

The concierge lounge is an intimate room located on a restricted floor and includes breakfast in the morning and appetizer and non-alcoholic beverages for no charges when upgraded to this restricted floor. I very much appreciate the time you spent in sharing your thoughts.

Warm Regards,

Ray

“Best Service, Location, Rooms for the Price”

I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate staying at the Sheraton Jacksonville. After my most recent trip staying at the W Miami Beach, I have a new found love and respect for the entire staff at this hotel. The level of service is far superior to any that I receive staying anywhere else. I’ve stayed over 70 nights throughout the year at this hotel alone. Who would ever think that a 2 Star hotel would far exceed a six star hotel in Miami Beach.

The rooms are tastefully decorated and the beds are super comfortable. The TV’s are HD LCD and provide excellent programming. However, they need to get the History Channel back working again. Strange that it is the only channel that doesn’t work.

You simply cannot beat the superior location by the mall. Every conceivable dining option is a short drive away. If you have a pet, the Sheraton Jacksonville welcomes you with open arms and a warm heart. I cannot say enough great things about the entire staff. They are a true Five Star Staff providing exceptional quality customer service. Michael the GM, obviously picks and trains his people well.

Room Tip: Rooms 627, 527, 427, 327 are all suites. However, even the basic rooms are very nice and well design...

Hello Stephen C,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your recent stay with your fellow travelers and us. I sincerely appreciate the kind words about the staff as well as the property itself. I will make sure Michael reads your comments about his selection skills as well. Thank you also for the heads up about the History channel I will have Doug our chief figure out if that is just a room glitch or a system issue. Either way we will soon be upgrading signals and offering additional channels in high definition as they have become available. One other technical advancement for the hotel will see fiber optics brought to the hotel in 2012 which will expand the property bandwidth and make surfing while at the hotel much faster.

Thank you again for your kind words and your patronage.

Warmest Regards,

Ray

“Barely qualifies as a Sheraton - would be a Four Points in most cities.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

If a former college dormitory became a Sheraton, that's this hotel. They've put some polish on the property but they come up lacking in many areas:
- Thin walls and noisy corridors
- Window unit climate control units that have been converted to thermostat control (a huge annoyance of mine)
- Rooms are quite dusty including a layer of dust over the intake of the A/C unit that I cleaned off both times I stayed at this property. I have a major dust allergy and woke up every morning with bloodshot eyes from an allergic reaction.
- Front desk staff is not very helpful and doesn't know how to handle SPG preferred members. I'm fine with not getting an upgrade, but not being able to give a basic reserved King room and only giving out 2 Doubles is unacceptable. Also requested a room away from the elevator and get upstairs and it's next door to the elevator. Requested a room with no connecting door and came back up with room #2 and there's a connecting door. This isn't rocket science. At that point I gave up.
- The club room is nice but it's in a small space just outside the elevator door on the 6th floor. The attendants are not very helpful - mostly hiding out in the backroom and watching TV. Always had to be reminded to refill things that were empty.
- In Room dining appears to be outsourced to a 3rd party restaurant. The order taker is rude and doesn't know the menu. "What is Malbec - can you spell that? I'm not a bartender!" OK, but perhaps you could read your own menu.

There's not a lot of choice in Jacksonville so perhaps this is the best of the offering. The actual Four Points is much worse.

Dear John S.,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with your fellow travelers and us. I was disappointed to read about your concerns with both the product and service. I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences these may have caused you.

I will not make excuses. The Sheraton hotel is less than 4 years old and is not a conversion of any kind. It was built and opened in 2008. Every room has individual climate controls and is not a conversion to thermostat. All AC units are located under the desks in all of the rooms and finding any of them in the condition you described is regrettable.

I am very disappointed in your perceptions of the service. I take a great deal of pride in my team and I remind them daily the one thing our hotel has that others do not is them. Typically they make the difference in most of our guest stays. Your experience was certainly not typical.

Thank you again for taking the time to share.

Warm Regards,

Ray
