If you were staying in the northwest area of Jacksonville, your choices used to be limited, but recently a few more motels have been built in the area just north of the I-295 and I-10 exchange. One is the Country Inn and Suites on Commonwealth Ave. This was our first stay at a Country Inn. The online reservation process was easy. When we got there we found ample parking, though the overflow area extends away from the building along the entry driveway, requiring a somewhat further walk than usual.
Check-in went smoothly. Freshly baked oatmeal raisin cookies were just coming out of the oven when we got there. We could hardly wait to grab some as we passed through the attractive lobby with our luggage. The lobby had a nice fireplace with a sitting area that had a reading library that offered books you could keep for free if you weren’t finished reading one by the end of your stay. The Country Inn has interior corridors. I noticed that the corridors were wider than normal and that there were doors that could close off the corridors from the lobby, presumably in the event there was noisy activity in the lobby.
The large room was decorated with painted walls and framed art and mirrors. Furnishings included two comfortable queen beds, a night table and a large dresser that also served as support for a television, microwave and refrigerator. A desk and chair provided workspace that included wired and wireless Internet connections. The all-in-one bath included a large vanity. Other amenities included a clock, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, and a coffeemaker that made one cup at a time.
Our stay was quiet and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had requested a quiet room and the front desk clerk gave us a room at the end of a hall, explaining that people were coming in town for a big football game and she wanted us to have the minimum amount of people walking past our door. She said if we had any noise issues, we should call the front desk immediately. Noise was never a problem, but I do appreciate the extra efforts that she made to assure that it wouldn’t be one.
The breakfast area was large and attractive, with nice wooden furniture. The expanded Continental breakfast included scrambled eggs, waffles, cereals, oatmeal, hard-boiled eggs, bagels, toast and Danish, along with coffee, tea and juices. An attendant kept everything clean and stocked.
This was our first stay at any Country Inn and Suites and we weren’t sure what to expect. It exceeded our expectations and provided attractive and comfortable lodging at a very reasonable price. We will definitely stay at this one again, and add Country Inn and Suites to our list of acceptable motels on other cities.
