I know that I've only rated this motel as "average', but where it is situated, the friendliness of the staff and the general "feel" to the place, were all excellent. This is a tired motel; it has seen better days. However, it ticked all our boxes. It was at the top end of the main street through the town of Gettysburg, which allowed us a rare event in America: walking from the hotel into town. It was also right on two of the main parts of the famous battle: the town itself and Cemetery Hill, as well as being a short drive away from the Battlefield Visitors Centre.
As our three week holiday was visiting Civil War battlefields, Gettysburg is a must. When we first came here 16 years ago, you simply drove onto the battlefield and muddled your way round; now you travel around the whole battlefield site with an audio tour guide CD. These are expensive, but our host at the motel gave us his for free. We bought him a 6 pack of beer as a thank you and he was genuinely surprised and thanked us greatly. I find such acts of generosity really touching and uplifting.
The room was fine, replete with bath, shower, fridge, comfortable bed and plenty of room. It was also great to be able to park right outside of the room, as they are all on the ground floor. Admittedly, the breakfast was orange juice, coffee and a pastry, but we didn't mind, because we didn't expect any more. The price, given the location was very reasonable at $75 for the Saturday night and $55 for the Sunday.
So, if you're visiting Gettysburg, don't be put off by this quaint motel. We loved it.
