My son and I stayed there 6/30/11 -7/4/11 for the Gettysburg reenactment and paid two to three times the usual rate for an Econo Lodge because of the event weekend. The second nite my son stepped on and was punctured all the way into the bottom of his bare foot by an post earring that was right in the middle of the floor although I and my son don't wear earrings. It took a few seconds for us to figure out what happened as my son was screaming and we had to pull the thing out. I called the manager to complain that the room obviously was not cleaned properly. I had to leave my son and go to the office with the post to prove what had happened and instead of refunding my $135+ for the nite he said he would fire the maid. I said I didn't want her fired in this economy I just wanted restitution for my son's pain and that I hoped he would be okay for the reenactment he so loves. He said he would take care of the bill when we checked out. (We stayed 2 more nites because by then every hotel in the surrounding area was fully booked.) When check out time came he wasn't at the desk and I had to re-explain all to his wife and she said he left a message to refund $35 and then gave me a $25 refund. I wasn't looking to make money off my son's injury but when you spend $135/nite at a Econo Lodge you at least expect a safe room where you can take a shower and walk out of the bathroom and still be safe. Things happen but that's when a manager has to take responsibility and make sure the guest in compensated when they don't receive the bare minimum of what they paid for.
