“Great Hotel in a wonderful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My husband and I spent a week-end in Philly just for fun. We wanted to stay in a luxurious hotel from which we could take long walks and explore, shop, and eat at good restaurants. This was it! The hotel upgraded our room when we told them it was a special week-end for us and it was lovely. Not only that, I fell in love with a teapot that was used to serve tea in the restaurant and inquired about purchasing one. There was one boxed up waiting for me when we left - at no charge! There is only one less than excellent aspect: the restaurant. The food was okay but I would take advantage of other restaurants in the city over eating at the hotel.
Overall, a fabulous experience!

“The thing hotels are made of.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012 via mobile

I've stayed at some of the best hotels in the World and am now making sure to make the Rittenhouse my go-to in Philly. The customer service, friendliness, positive attitude, genuine conversation, and spotless appearance is there from the moment you pull-in to the second you leave the square. The staff at this hotel obviously takes pride in being apart of such a wonderful establishment and it is relayed in their on the minute response, 100% professionalism and politeness, quality and quantity of their service, and self-efficacy in trying to define "extraordinary" in the hotel industry. This was more than just a wonderful place to stay during business, it has now become a getaway in Philadelphia and I can't wait for a reason to return.

“It doesn't get better than this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012 via mobile

We have stayed in many luxury hotels and this is one of the best anywhere. Room was large and clean and well decorated, with lovely views of the park. Bed was amazingly comfortable. They thought of every amenity. Service was attentive and location was great. Rates were reasonable. Can't say enough good things about this hotel. Look forward to returning there whoever we go to Philadelphia!

“A very Philadelphian hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Rittenhouse square is arguably the best area to stay in the city. Of the hotels around the square (others are Kimpton, Sofitel, AKA ), The Rittenhouse is probably the most luxurious. The rooms are very large, decorated in that "old Philadelphia" style. The gym is great and they have a pool. The service can border on stuffy but is usually pretty attentive. When I arrived last weekend, no one came up to greet my cab or brought my luggage in. There were doormen/bellmen but they were busy helping another car and no one looked my way. It wasn't until I got to the front desk that I was asked if I needed help with my luggage. I had booked through American Express because in addition to the room upgrade they offer a $100 food credit. However, when you check in you realize the food credit is only for Lacroix which is very fine dining or the Tea Room. I wish I would have known this beforehand as I was traveling with my young daughter. The $100 can't be used for room service or Smith&Wollensky or the lounges. This is a slight peave for me because $100 in Lacroix would be merely a small portion of the bill---which is great if that's where you intended on dining. The room was very clean, in good repair and the bed was heavenly. Morning room service was quick but continental for two included only one coffee and one fruit juice. When we were checking out on Saturday the lobby was buzzing with incoming wedding parties, which is what I think this hotel caters to. In all, my stay was good, not exceptional. It is still a great place to stay but I think it depends on what you are looking for. The Rittenhouse used to be THE place to stay on the square but I think the other hotels in the area with their fresher/hipper offerings make this hotel seem more "old school philly" than ever.

Thank you for writing a review for Trip Advisor. I apologize if our staff did not explain that the $100 food and beverage gift card could be used for breakfast and lunch in Lacroix, or light meals and beverages in Bar 210, located in restaurant Lacroix.
