We arrived being less than impressed with the overall exterior presentation of the facilities (very "ho-hum") That was quickly forgotten when we discovered all the perks of this 12 room inn. 1st, excellent location. Close to the subway, numerous parks, bars, and locally owned restaurants, historical sites, visitors center, Penns Landing, etc. Just off the main drag Market Street and EASY walking distance to South Street. The staff was exceptional in meeting our needs. The room was piping hot when we arrived and they quickly reduced the temperature in the building. They also got us a fan, iron, ironing board, and glasses, at our request. The rooms were small, but very clean, no signs of any malodors or mold and mildew. The bed was a comfortable double shared with my companion. Felt more akin to staying in the guest room of a relatives home than a hotel which was fine with us. Free WiFi is always a perk, signal was nice and strong. Lastly despite being on the 3rd floor and sleeping with the window ajar (on the night New Years Eve no less) we fell asleep with no problem when we returned to our room at 3:00am :)
The negatives, and for $89 (taxes & fees included) on NYE night in Philly this is REALLY nit-picking: Very small television (didn't even turn it on so who cares I don't go on vacation to watch TV, no individualized climate controls (temperature was fine in building once it was lowered), minimal bathroom counterspace (only stayed one night), no elevator (thankfully we're young and strong), no ice machine (this one was harder to adjust to but alas there is a bar downstairs where you could prolly get ice in a pinch.)
Would prolly stay elsewhere if I were in town for more than two nights (or traveling with more than one person) Otherwise I would GLADLY return to this spot!
