“Near Perfect”

Stayed here on Feb. 11th 2012. I read all the reviews about this hotel before booking. Overall our experience was awesome. We booked a waterfront/city view room on the highest floor availible. Ended up on the 19th floor and our view was beautiful. Room was spotless, bed was comfortable and service was excellent. The elevator is one of the fastest elevators I have ever been on and when you get off you might feel a little dizzy. Location is good close to South street and short drive to center city. A few great waterfront restaurants in walking distance. We were prepared for the self parking fee and the walk from the lot was a little unusual but not as bad as people have mentioned (could be bad if you have a lot of luggage) . Be prepared for the hotel to hold $50 at check in to cover any damages or additional charges to the room. You will be refunded if you don't use Internet or make long distance calls(or you can have them take out $30 for parking fee).

Room Tip: Water view ....Highest floor

“Ripoff alert: $10-$12 internet, $30 self parking”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

This hotel is a ploy to extract money from unsuspecting out-of-towners. $12 internet, $30 parking: Those are just some of the fees that you will encounter if you stay here. You can't fight back once you're in town and have nowhere else to stay.

Hotels beware. If you nickel and dime customers, you are going to get scathing reviews. Why? Because putting in hidden fees, or "unbundling" the costs of basic necessities, deprives consumers of the right to know how much they are going to pay. The types of people who stay in a Hyatt regency are going to need internet access and the operators of this business are well aware of that. It does not necessarily have to be throughout the hotel, but there should be somewhere that people can access the internet for free, whether in the lobby or a business center. Internet is a necessity nowadays. This hotel has absolutely no areas with free internet access. I confirmed this with several employees. I was told that I would have to pay between $18 and $24 to have internet service during my 2 day stay. I have stayed at 16 hotels over the past 2 months, from Econolodges to 4 star hotels, and every one of them has provided free internet access in at least one area of the hotel. Not here.

I brought up this issue with their manager -------- [name withheld]. I said I felt that I was being nickel and dimed because when I purchased the reservation at Hotwire, there was no mention of how much the additional cost would be for internet access. All she did was to say that this was "my opinion", recite the internet charge policy, and make some smart comments that did not address the real issue. This included a suggestion that $18 was so little, why didn't I want to pay it? She kept treating me like I was trying to get something for free, when in fact I was trying to suggest a way for this hotel to improve the customer experience. I'm pretty tired of companies feeling that it is okay to nickel and dime customers, and then belittling them when they complain.

This hotel is far from Philadelphia's excellent subway system, so you have to take a taxi to travel into the city or bring your car. They charge $30 for self parking!

This is a repeat posting from another site. There is absolutely no ploy in place to , as this person suggests, extract money from unsuspecting travelers. Our internet charge is lower than many full service hotels in the area. Also, our parking charges are among the lowest in this area plus we offer lower priced self parking as well as a valet parking option which many hotels do not.

To suggest we do this since we know travelers won't have any other options is incorrect. There are many options available to the traveler coming to Philadelphia. These include options located close by the city that may have large open surface parking lots that are available complimentary. There may be cab fees or costs to park for the day once you drive in to the city but the parking may be complimentary at the hotel. The good news is there are choices and travel should be rewarding, productive, fun and relaxing.

We appreciate having had the opportunity to have this guest with us.

“A Wonderful Hotel Experience”

My teen daughter and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency overnight as part of her birthday celebration in late January, and we both loved our stay. The staff was pleasant, friendly, helpful and professional; the room and bathroom were immaculately clean and nicely furnished. We ordered room service, and the food was very good. The climate control for the room was excellent. Before booking our trip, I read other reviews from people complaining about paying for valet parking, but there is a self-park option. I paid the extra money for valet parking and it was more than worth it, especially considering the exorbitant cost of parking in Philadelphia and the dearth of on-street parking in the city.

I was also aware of the $10 Wi-Fi fee, but fortunately, my T-Mobile smartphone has a program that allows you to use your smartphone internet service as Wi-Fi access for other devices, so my daughter and I were able to use our laptop and eReader for free, avoiding the need to purchase Wi-Fi access at the hotel. It would be nice if the hotel offered free Wi-Fi for guests.

Since the hotel is located at Penn's Landing, we enjoyed a spectacular view of the waterfront, the city skyline, and were able to watch the ice skaters at the Blue Cross RiverRink. The Hyatt Regency is also located within walking distance of many area attractions such as the Moshulu, the Spirit of Philadelphia Cruise ship, Independence Mall, and dining attractions like Dave and Busters. The weekend we stayed at the hotel was during the Chinese New Year celebration. Chinatown in Philadelphia was only a few minutes drive from the hotel, and we had a great time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and hated to leave, but we are looking forward to our next (extended) stay at the Hyatt Regency!!

Room Tip: Choose a room on one of the higher floors for a great view of the surrounding areas. We stayed on th...

“Pretty good hotel nice location.”

I stay at this hotel periodically on business. The location right on the water close to the historic area is really nice when you have some downtime. My room itself wasn't particularly impressive, but it was clean and had all the usual amenities.

Every hotel staff member I encountered was friendly and professional.

The fitness center was above average for a hotel.
