“Price and Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We chose this hotel for price and location. It is walking distance to the Art and Rodin museums, an organic market and Wawa. The parking is free. Breakfast is not included but there are a restaurant and bar on site. The hotel is basic/standard, nothing special. If you are willing to risk it, pick up a coupon book at a fast food restaurant and get a better hotel for the same price on a walk-in basis.

“Low budget alternative”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Positive: Location. Near the Art Museum, supermarkets, bus lines and Fairmount Park.

Negative: We have a leak on our room at night. The hotel would use some restoration.

Only recommendable if you are in a tight budget or you are staying overnight. Otherwise there are better options.

thank you for your recent review and comments. We do appreciate the nice comments on our good value and great location in the Parkway/Museum area of Center City Philadelphia. I am not sure what happened that you had some leak in your room. We certainly do have a maintainance department and I only had hoped you provided us the opportunity to rectify any problem which came up during your stay. Again, we thank you for writing your review

“One star is too generous for this dump......”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I was adamant that I was going to write to Best Western upon return to the UK about this terrible hotel. I have never felt like this after a hotel stay before (and there have been many)
In short, I can't be bothered so i'll just share my pics here!!

It wasn't very cheap, it's dated, dirty, the staff are morose,it smells horrible,The air con sounded like a not so distant tsunami,Internet constantly dropped out,The tv didn't work properly, The window didn't even latch shut in my room & I worried for my possesions throughout my whole visit.
Hell, they couldn't even through in a breakfast to counter the bad points somewhat!

How a multi-national like Best Western continue to have this hell hole in their portfolio beggars belief!!!

“Scary, dirty, unfriendly... Worst hotel experience ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

I recently stayed here after my reservations in a downtown hotel were mixed up and I was without a room on a business trip during a large conference. This was my only choice for places with availability at the last minute, and I can see why.

Check-in was mixed up as the person taking the phone reservation didn't share the information with the other team members. This resulted in delays, confusion and me being turned away at one point. It was resolved when the person who took the phone reservation showed up.

Room - The door locks were broken, including the chain lock which is the secondary security system. The room smelled bad and was generally worn down and dirty. Power in my room wasn't always available for unknown reasons. The only working plug was in the washroom, and the lights didn't always work in there either. Unfortunately, no other rooms were available in the hotel or the city.

General impression - There were workers doing work in other rooms in overalls. Removing a blood stained mattress from the room across the hall. This was occurring as I was going to my room for the first time. Not a great impression, nor were the people who appeared to be homeless hanging out in the main floor washroom and lobby.

On my last morning, after two nights (thankfully) a lady from a neighboring building was waiting for a cab, which we shared downtown. She asked if we actually stayed there and said she thought it had been closed for a while and was supposed to be torn down to make way for condominiums. This may be the same reason they were not taking reservations and turning walk-ins away on the morning our group checked out. (Vacating several rooms) I had a cab driver tell me the same thing that this place was closed down and was shocked I Was staying there.

I wouldn't recommend this facility, the location isn't great and the general atmosphere is sketchy. If it wasn't for the conference I would have left the city all together.

We appreciate your recent review of your most recent stay at our Hotel. After reading your comments , we apologize for not meeting your expectations. I am not sure why you had power
problems at our Hotel as well as the other issues you mentioned. Our Management team is on duty at all times and we strive to address any guest concerns or needs during your stay.
We do accommadate many guests who stay with us during medical visits to nearby hospitals
and in the case you mentioned a guest had an accident and we did indeed change the entire
bedding including mattress and boxspring.
While you commented on our location not being suitable for your needs, many of our guests do like our location in the Parkway/Museum area.
We hope to be of service to you in the future.
