“I never wanted to leave.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011 via mobile

After arriving for buisness, I never wanted to leave, Kathy was so warm, kind and caring, I spent most of my vacation with Kathy. I personally cant wait to go back. Kathy has Antiques everywhere you could spend hours just looking at so many wonderful items, reading relaxing. Fresh coffee cheese danish cereal toast and wonderful homemade jam, Kathy puts out a wonderful breakfast. One morning I woke up early and was asked if I would like to join her for morning shopping, I said hell yes lol, love spending time with her. I personally know the bread was fresh daily as were many of the other items served for breakfast. My linens were clean daily, Room was very clean, I shut my door to keep the cat out my coworker invited her in. She loves Kathys cat Cindy would still know the cats name I forgot not a cat person but I didnt smell it at all. I sat on the steps every morning to drink coffee and smoke. So I dont know why others complained about that, they must of been rude and loud, The neighbors all are friendly stopped by every morning to say hello. I cant wait to return.

My second visit to "The Columns" was pleasant. As before The staff were warm and welcoming, and accomodating of a long list of food allergies. I appreciate the independence allowed by the innkeeper and the thorough historic knowledge she has and shares with guests.

“This woman is NUTS!!!! Beware of the filth and cat pee stench!!!!!!”

My husband and I called to make a reservation for this poor excuse of a B&B for one night, less than 24 hours before our expected stay. When we arrived, we rang the doorbell and waited at least 5 minutes for Kathy, the innkeeper to appear. We were greeted with a woman whose clothes were dirty and she was already complaining and frazzled as we entered the foyer. The smell of cat urine was immediate and strong. The floors were covered in dirt, old Flyer's posters, Christmas trees half up, newspapers hoarded all over in boxes, trash on the floors. She proceeded to show us our room, upon which the cats followed right behind. The floors were filthy in there also and it looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in God know how long. Literally a pigpen. I told her I would not sleep there due to being allergic to her cats roaming freely all over the house. She immediately turned even more nasty..and started blaming us for causing her so much trouble! We were there for no more than 5 minutes, our bags were still in the car! Now she has the nerve to charge my cfedit card $165.00 just to step into that God awful pigpen! What a lie the internet pics are! Be warned.!! We are calling the Dept of Health on her, may she get what she deserves.

“very happy with our stay at Columns on Clinton B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2010

My wife & I stayed at the Columns on Clinton B&B for 5 days Nov 2010. We were very pleased w our accomodations. Picturesque historical house (1848) & tree lined street, brick sidewalks, very quiet, great location - 10 min walk to downtown convention center & historical sites. Our room & floor bathroom spacious, clean, quiet. We were more than pleased w continental breakfasts - muffins, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, tea, etc. The owner Kathy was congenial and accomodating. She let us know of other floor guests plans, so that we never collided with needs for the floor bathroom. Though all the rooms on our floor were occupied, I never saw or heard anything other than an occasional door closure. Lots of books, TV, VHS + DVD movies including back to Topper & SkyKing from the 50s, internet. I did read a Philly hx book at night, but choose to sightsee while wife was conferencing. Would stay here again. Our preferences are for a B&B w character, uniqueness, a "fit" for the city of its location, and a chance to meet some other "real" people during our stay as opposed to oversized city center hotels with glitzy chrome + lights and staff that could care less about you but are speciously courteous because they are paid to be so.

“I came to Philadelphia on business and had a holiday at the Colulmns as well”

For the second time in a year i stayed for a week with two of my close friends at the Colulmns Bed and Breakfast on Clinton Street Philadelphia.

It was such a please to be greeted by the warm host and owner Kathy, nothing is ever too much....even a trip to the out of town mall if you want....we all like shopping! i had my usual room which though a single room has a beautiful King size bed in a beautifully decorated room all in keeping with the historic house it's self. My friends were in a twin room next door with great proportions and pleanty of closset space and a beautiful shower room for us to share on our floor, we felt like royalty. If you are hungry or thirsty Kathy has a fridge on every floor full of cold drinks and snacks there is even a flask of hot water should you like coffee firts thing in the morning while you shower.

Breakfast is a 5 star treet, a magnificent dinning room best china and top service, i found it difficult to leave the table and just wanted to stay longer. If your hungry during the day there are snacks and fruit availble to nibble on and drinks hot and cold.

the cleanleness is second to none through out the house, you just know it when you first enter the breath taking hallway, fresh linnen, towels robes and slippers availble in your room.

The location is supberb if you are a tourist, so convienent to everything and close to the major hospitals should you have relatives needing care, the street is tree lined and the house has tremdouse street appeal, i loved returning at night and took many pictures.

Returning to Ireland i look forward to my next trip to the Columns and highly recomend it and it is great value , i have a restarunt and continually speak of my trips to my favorite B& B......
