Enjoyed our stay at Hampton while at the recent APA convention. The Marriott where the APA was staged was a chaotic, noisy, busy place, nice to be able to walk less than a half mile and be away from all that. And the Reading Market was in between so it was easy to catch a nice lunch and snacks along the way.
Hampton was very pleasant. We had a 10th floor room facing south, so we could see most of the downtown area including Penn Tower. Noise from Race street was not objectionable at this height, but it might be on a lower level. The only objectionable noise was apparently from the giant A/C units on the building opposite one day while we were there. Sounded like a jet engine outside our window. Called the desk to complain and they offered to move us but said it would probably end by 7 pm. It ended at 6:30 so wasn't a problem. We liked the cookies, hot cider, and soft pretzels available in the lobby, and the constant access to coffee and tea. Staff was very helpful and friendly, and fixed a minor problem with our toilet (offered to move us also). Breakfast was good. Wifi worked well, but apparently everyone is droppped each day even though the password remains the same. It changed on Sat. This was a little annoying since it wasn't mentioned, but not a big deal. Just a couple of blocks from Chinatown to the East. We ate at Vietnam Palace and Ting Wong, great food at both. Ting Wong has little in the way of yuppie atmosphere, looks like a hole in the wall place the locals would eat. They were making fresh noodles as we walked by, so we decided to give it a try. Wonderful, inexpensive and bountiful plates of food. Immediately brought us a glass (not a cup) of hot tea. Probably go there a lot if we lived in Philly. We also checked out the Art Museum, a walk of about 1 mile. Its excellent, wish we had had more time to explore there. So would we stay at Hampton again? definitely! But to avoid issues I think maybe we might pick a West side room on the 11th floor, assuming we had a choice, that woud be the farthest from a street, I think. Given the nice people we encountered at Hampton I think they would get it for you if they could. My only real complaint, if it can be called one, is I thought the towels had an odd smell. My wife said she thought it was just their choice of soap. I guess it could be, I just didn't care for it. Minor complaint. Very clean place, so I doubt it was mold, and it was all the towels, not just one. My wife also used their printer and computer to print out our boarding passes, she said she had no problems with that.
Room Tip: Choose a room on the West side away from streets, and high up to put you away from any street level...

Thank you for taking the time to write your experience at the Hampton Inn Philadelphia. You went into great detail about the hotel and staff and I'm very pleased we hit your expectations. The staff works hard to achieve the high level of service and I'm glad your witnessed this. The hotel is constantly upgrading and within the next month we are are adding a bar, upgrading the internet, and enhancing our bathroom amenities. Also I noticed you enjoyed the Philadelphia Art Museum. Well the city is adding a new museum this May and it is the Barnes Museum. It will be fabulous.
Thank you for being OUR guest.
Sincerely,
