“Excellent Stay!”

My boyfriend and I spent an evening here while visiting Philadelphia. I chose this hotel mainly for its location and close proximity to Christ Church Burial Ground, Independence Hall, etc. We absolutely loved our stay. The room was humongous and very nicely decorated with an extremely comfortable bed. The included breakfast was extremely delicious and proved to be a great way to get our morning started.

My only complaint deals with the restaurant in the hotel. We decided to eat here after a late check-in, mostly because we were too tired to venture anywhere else. After looking over the menu, I was a little leery about eating there but at that point we decided to just go with it. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed. The food was very mediocre and extremely overpriced. In the end I was charged for something I did not order and ultimately paid $80.00 and left there hungry.

With that aside, we thoroughly enjoyed Penn's View. I would recommend staying here to anyone traveling to Philly :-)

P.S.- Upon leaving the hotel, take a left out the front doors and head straight for a few blocks. You will run into Elfreth's Ally. The Ally is the oldest residential street in the United States! This was a really cool spot to wander around.

“A great Boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed at Penn's View for a weekend and we found it to be a delightful quiet oasis. It's very convenient to all of the historic sites in Center City and Old City. We felt that it was like staying in a small inn in Italy or France. Breakfast was great and service was top-notch!

“Decided not to stay.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I had planned on staying here for a special Valentine's Event that they advertise on their site. But I had questions, so I emailed them asking a few questions and was ignored. So I sent a second email and they claimed they never received the first. I wanted information on their most expensive room and the Valentine's package combo. I also wanted information on their pricing which seemed confusing on their site. They list the same room with 4 different prices. The response was somewhat surprising. I was told that the Premium King rooms were all the same regardless of the price and that I should select the lowest price on the website which was about $40 less. Then I was told that the Premium King with the combo would be $399 (a price that was not listed anywhere.) I was now thoroughly confused. The Premium King, according to their site, was $259 (lowest price on site) which made the dinner package an additional $140. But if you break down the other prices the Jacuzzi King was $184 base or $219 combo, a $35 difference. The Premium Queen was $199 base or $249 for the dinner combo, a $50 difference. The Standard Queen was $159 base or $199 with dinner, a $40 difference. So when I sent another email asking about this disparity I was told that I would not be treated differently if I spent less money and that I shouldn't expect lesser quality of service. I was then told that I should call to get more information. I decided to stick with the emails since they seemed to be wishy-washy on things and wanted it all in writing. That was the end of the contacts from them. I advised them in my last correspondence that I would be shopping for somewhere else to stay since I was uncomfortable with their ability to explain the pricing or justify it.
This may be an amazing hotel with lots of charm to offer as others described it, but I'm not taking any chances. If you plan on staying here get them to put all pricing in writing along with which room you are getting and a description of it and the views or what is next to the room. I have read all of the other bad complaints as well and they stated problems with "hotel" noise and "street" noise. Being in the city I think that they should just get over the street noise and can understand the discontent with the hotel noise. Good luck and happy travels.

Room Tip: Ask about views and sounds.

We are sorry for the guest's confusion. We were having issues with our e-mail. Hopefully this will explain the package breakdown for this package. We sold over 150 packages of the exact packages at the same rate last Valentine's day weekend and we did not have any misunderstandings.

The rates for the rooms online are solely based on demand and our normal pricing. The package rates are not deduced by those rates. The package rates in the Valentine's case is to extend the holiday over 4-5 days making it available to a wider amount of guests. The lower tier rooms are harder to sell during Valentine's , so that is why we like to make it more attractive rate wise to more guests and since we have
35 out of the 51 that fall into that category.

The restaurant specail package is $80 for 2 people for any one not staying over - with the package for a Standard Queen it is $199 ( so you are paying $119 for the room), Jacuzzi King $219 - 80 = $139 & Premium Queen $249 - 80 = $169. The Premium King is not advertised on our site, but if you want to purchase/book it, it's at a premium since it's our best room and we only have 3 out of 51 rooms.

If you were to buy all of the items that are included within the package at normal prices you would be over or equal to the package rates . These are the base rates for Feb 10th - and do not include taxes and gratuities.

Standard Room
Dinner for 2 with 3 courses $ 92.00(average cost)
Champagne $ 40.00
Strawberries$ 8.00
Room rent $ 159

Total $299 vs Package rate $199

Jacuzzi King
Dinner for 2 with 3 courses $ 92.00
Champagne $ 40.00
Strawberries$ 8.00
Room rent $ 184

Total $324 vs Package rate $219

Premium Queen
Dinner for 2 with 3 courses $ 92.00
Champagne $ 40.00
Strawberries$ 8.00
Room rent $ 199

Total $339 vs Package rate $249

Premium King
Dinner for 2 with 3 courses $ 92.00
Champagne $ 40.00
Strawberries$ 8.00
Room rent $ 259

Total $399 vs Package rate $399

Hopefully this clarifies any misunderstanding or confusion.

Thank you

“Like staying in an Italian Villa”

I love this hotel and the people that work there are more like family than employees. It has larger than most rooms some with fabulous fire places and jacuzzi tubs. The breakfast included was just like staying at a villa in Italy and the restaurant with their flights of wine was superb. I highly recommend this as an alternative to big box chain hotels.

Room Tip: choose room 414.

“Location,Location, Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Just a few blocks from some of the best restaurants and tourist sites in Philly. The hotel is very quaint and kept very clean. Staff is excellent and very helpful with anything you might need to make your stay better. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel with an opulent lobby this is not the place for you. We actually stayed in a room with a fireplace and jacuzzi which came in very handy after a cold days walk through Philly. If you are looking for a hotel that is comfortable and accomodating than you have found the right place. Nice breakfast set-up, waffles, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, cereal, bagels and english muffins, and fresh O.J. to start every morning. I must say the coffee was not up to par. I might add that the Palamar restaurant which is located in the hotel's lobby is rated one of the best in all of Philly. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family if they are ever in the Philly area.
