“Great location with lots to do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This hotel is a great location in Old City. Close to restaurants, bars, nightlife, and attractions. The bar and restaurant in the hotels are very convenient. The rooms were very clean and a great size with views of the city. There is a fire station around the corner, but I didn't hear any sirens. There were horse and buggies all over this area - very cute! The check in is a little late (4pm) and the check out is a little early (11am), but it was plenty of time to enjoy the night. Parking is always a pain in a city, and here was no different. The hotel deck was $25, but for ease and convenience it's worth parking at the hotel. Some nearby lots were $22 overnight, but they were farther away and uncovered (in case of snow or rain). If you park in the hotel deck, you can come and go as often as you want for free, but there is always a taxi right outside if you don't feel like driving. Plus, a lot is walkable, especially on a nice day. Great value - definitely recommend!

Room Tip: There is a fire station on Arch street, so try to stay on the Market Street side (although I never h...

“Convenient”

Our stay at the Holiday Inn was comfortable. The location was the best part of this property. Our room had an interesting view of the Christ Church cemetery and Ben Franklin’s grave. We were close enough to walk to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The room had a decent sized refrigerator and microwave. This property is probably due for a thorough cleaning and some renovations. The furniture was pretty dirty. When I returned home, I found that my credit card was charged even though I paid cash upon checkout. The staff at Holiday Inn cleared up the mistake after just one phone call so I was pleasantly surprised. If you park in the garage, they let you keep your car there until 5pm after you check out. There is also always a taxi available outside of the hotel. That was very convenient. Overall this hotel was a good value in a great location. The staff was friendly and helpful.

“Good location for US history”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House and much else are all on the doorstep of the Holiday Inn Historic District. Ben Franklin is buried on the same city block. The rooms themselves are spacious, nicely carpeted and clean; free wi-fi. However, it is not the most comfortable environment for a long stay. The under-window a/c units are very noisy - and badly fitted so in cold weather there is an icy draught from around them - and make the place too hot. The wash basins have water-saving spray taps - but the lavatories take several flushes. Beware the suites. They are bigger but the window is round a corner and makes for a dark room. I felt we were camping out and making the best of it, rather than being really comfortable. The public areas, specially the carpets, are tired. The bar is gloomy and uninviting. The reception staff though are really friendly and helpful. They deserve a better hotel. In short, this hotel would be most convenient for doing all the historic sights easily and quickly in Fall or early Spring when the ambient temperature outside is also what you would like it to be in the room.

“Great value, great location, very basic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

This hotel is easily reached by car from the Ben Franklin Bridge and is exactly in the middle of the historic district. Ideal location. Garage is reasonably priced. The hotel was redecorated in the last several years and was clean, modern and functional. Only gripes were: the heating which is the old hot air blower system. When it's on, the room is unbearably hot and dry: when it's off, it's too cold-- so beware in winter. And our mattress felt like a water bed. Too soft, pulls one to the middle. The coffee shop was fine, but basic. Many more interesting options in short walking distance. If the objective is clean, safe, central and cheap this hotel is great.

“Tired decor, friendly staff (except restaurant)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

For the price and the name, this hotel could use some serious decorating updates. For example, the carpet in our room was worn almost through, the bathroom ceiling sagged, and the hanging picture in the main room had a hole poked through it. However, the room was clean, and the front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance staff were friendly, courteous, and professional. Our only staff complaint was the on-site restaurant employees who were surly at best and downright rude when we asked for silverware for our room after the front desk directed us to make the request. The gym was nice but way too small, and no pool. We stayed at this site as part of a business conference; don't know if we'd stay again without a great incentive.

Room Tip: Be careful not to stay near the fitness center, as the door slams off and on all night.
