I have stayed in many B&Bs and historic homes over the years, and I have to say The Gables is the best I have stayed in. The house is stunning and immaculate, yet very cozy. The hosts are welcoming, just the right mixture of business and sociability. The website photos just do not do the house justice. I stayed 2 nights, to visit family in the neighborhood. I chose the Tower room mostly because of the gas fireplace. What a pleasure to sleep in that comfortable bed in front of a roaring fire. Next time I will try the Blue Willow, another turret room. I peeked in all the rooms, one more beautiful than the next. The house is full of interesting antiques and books. The breakfast was plentiful and good, with a lot of variety. The wireless internet service worked well. There are plenty of restaurants and parks in the area, with the trolley stopping right outside too! I visited the Sat. farmers market in Clark Park before leaving. Best of all, free off street parking. I look forward to returning in warm weather, to enjoy the porch and garden. They even have a friendly poodle, Oscar. The only drawback for some could be the stairs - all the bedrooms are on the second and third floor.
