I have been to this Sheraton before in years past and It was a hotel, didn't really think anything good or bad about it. Well my husband and I recently had to make a trip back to Philly and booked at the 17th st Sheraton again because of our familiarity with its location. Ill tell you what though I was blown away. The man at the front desk Ryan ( probably the first name of a hotel employee I ever remembered!) went above and beyond. He was professional but real. As sad as it is, I have become accustomed to dealing with employees that are practically robots, they have lines of what to say and just spew it, and if you go outside of that script its like overload. This employee was so different and I can't begin to tell you how refreshing it was. My husband I went to the desk late looking for suggestions of places we could go expecting just the usual list provided by the hotel. Well Ryan was more then happy to help, he was honest about the places he has tried and could confirm were nice. He showed us some places that he heard were good in case we weren't interested in the places he would suggest, but also asked us what atmosphere we were looking for and the best places to find it. He explained the best ways to get there and the type of area it was in. It was such a great start to our stay, we didn't feel like strangers staying at some place in a city and instead like the hotel had our best interests in mind (something you just don't see anymore).
Over the next few days both my husband and I ran into him again at the desk, he asked if we were enjoying ourselves and if we needed anything. He was always professional, but as my husband talked with him he would joke and talk casually as well. We talked to a few of the other guests and we all agreed it was a pleasant surprise to have such friendly and accommodating service. When we explained to him why were were at the hotel, he even gave us some things complimentary, I doubt his manager reads this, but if so I hope that doesn't get him in trouble. We can tell through the employees, that this is a well run hotel, and a positive atmosphere to work, so I also give a lot of credit to the manager.
I didnt mean to go on such a tangent about one employee, but we truly feel it just made everything about the stay better. We loved our room, the location is right in the city center close to both inner city attractions and the museums. The area has good dinner restaurants, breakfast spots, and nice low key drinking holes.
We can't wait to go back, and we will soon. It may "just" be a Sheraton, but I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Why pay more for a room or less, to sacrifice that kind of service. To be honest this stay will surely lead us to book Sheraton even in other citys. I know I always read these ratings, so I hope someone thinking of staying here reads mine, because if you stay somewhere else I think your making a mistake.

Thank you fotaking the time to leave your feedback. We will be sure to recognize Ryan for the great Guest Service he issued. The employees are empowered to make things right for the guest. If that means comping, adjusting or even just empathizing we do what is necessary to ensure guest satisfaction with no recourse. We thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to your return.
