“Super location, historic feel, great Philly spot.”

We stayed at the Bellevue for one night staying downtown for a family event. We got a great deal on Priceline so I wasn't sure what to expect in regards to this hotel. We took a chance and it worked out perfectly.
First, the location is centrally located. Right next to City Hall and within walking distance to all Walnut Street shopping, the Kimmel Center and theaters. We didn't use a cab all weekend.
We self-parked at the adjacent parking garage and I think it was about $19 for the night.
Our room was humungous. So much space. I will say the decor is very dated and could use an update. But there is something charming and historical feeling about it. We had an interior room so we didn't have a view of the outside but of the courtyard in the middle of the hotel where they have events. It was fine for just one night, but if you want a view, be sure to ask.
Service was great. My parents were celebrating their 40th anniversary and they sent chocolate covered strawberries and champaign up the room. So kind. And we h ad a really helpful Bellman take us up to our rooms and help with luggage. Great old fashioned service.
We had drinks at the hotel bar/restaurant XIX. Gorgeous space. Fireplace, dim lighting and great menu. It gets very crowded at night as it's a Philly hot spot. We ended up at the nearby Ritz for a night cap instead. 1 block away.
Overall, I feel like we were really lucky in getting this hotel at such a discount. It was very comfortable, so convenient and a special place. We'll definitely stay there again!

“This is a Hyatt?!?! Could have been much, much better”

First the positive.

Reservation mixup.
Made reservation on booking.com on 12/31/11 while in Austin, TX. Erroneously made the reservation for Feb 3, 2012 and not Jan 3, 2012. Amanda Burroughs at the Hyatt changed the reservation while we were in Baltimore, MD with a $10 increase in price. This was great and I appreciate it. This is great and they really didn't have to accomodate us especially since the reservation was "non-refundable." So, thanks.

The service.
The staff was helpful. The valet service was great. They helped us with our two sleeping kids. Helped us with a luggage and whisked our car away. The front desk staff helped us up to the room and gave us a hand getting us settled in.

The room.
The room was large and clean with two enormous beds. Since we were travelling with two small kids the bed space and spacious room was more than enough for us. We were in a Queen Queen Room.

The location.
The location of this hotel is just incredible. We were right in the middle of the city and went by foot to where we had to be on Jan. 3rd.

The negative.

While I Paid $189.00 + $28.73 in tax + $37 for valet parking, which represents a 34% savings off their regular price and that is great, but was it still worth the price? My response is a resounding, "NO!" Why? The room, the internet, the breakfast, the noise.

The room.
I know that they are updating the rooms, but these rooms are really, really, really in bad shape. The faucet handles fell off. The carpet was stained. Shower didn't work properly. Toilet made a horrible noise. Etc., Etc., Etc., Luxurious? No.

The internet.
Not free. Not included in the hotel room. I just don't understand this at all. This is a Hyatt. Internet should be included.

The breakfast.
What breakfast? We were on our own. I know we saved 34% off the regular price. Thanks. But no breakfast? Come on.

The noise.
They warn you about the construction noise because they are refurbishing the hotel rooms, but what they don't warn you about is the noise from the corridor. I'm not sure what those doors are made of, but they are NOT sound proof. My hope is that with the refurbishing of the hotel rooms, a large room like ours will have a small foyer before entering the hotel room in order to reduce noise. Rooms that have 15 foot+ ceilings need foyers to cancel noise from the corridor. Without this small addition, noise just amplifies within the room and even mouse peeps sound like elephant stomps.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished - recently renovated room. Period. DO NOT STAY IN THE OLD ROOMS.

“Shards of Glass in Room Service!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My most recent stay at the Hyatt at the Bellevue in Philadelphia left me in pain and with an expensive Dental bill, and barely an apology from the hotel staff. I ordered the Mason Jar Cheesecake dessert from room service (which comes from the hotel's XIX restaurant). I took the first bite and was crunching on shards of glass! I cracked a molar tooth!

I immediately called to report the incident, and the night manager of the restaurant and a front desk agent came to my room to take a report. This occurred late at night, and these two individuals obviously did not know what they were doing. The next morning, Christine N. ("Room Executive" is the title on her business card) was at the front desk when I checked out. She told me to send her any medical bills I incurred and she would take care of everything. I still have not gotten any resolution to this horrible incident. SHAME ON THEM.

My sister and I travel to Philadelphia almost monthly on business, and have stayed at numerous downtown Philadelphia hotels. Hyatt at the Bellevue was my favorite, and I am so disappointed that Christine N. has left me with no choice but to stay at another hotel from now on.

“very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

The moment we arrived, we felt like we were in a different world. The hotel, just by appearance is amazing. Just upon checking in, the desk representative congratulated us on our marriage (the day before) and let us know we would be enjoying our nice room.
