“Does the job”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Not being familiar with the city, I wasn't sure really where to book but this place got good reviews and we only needed a place for 1 night. There is a small older style elevator to take us upstairs - it fit the two of us and our 2 large suitcases and that was all! The other option was a steep staircase so very happy for the elevator.
The room was small but had all the basics: good-sized bar fridge, comfortable bed, microwave, coffee-maker, iron and ironing board, large mirror. The room also has a ledge next to the window which was big enough to open up our suitcases on, which was good because there wasn't any room on the floor to do so. The free high-speed wireless was great.
There were a large range of options for breakfast (included in the price): waffle iron, tea, cofee, orange juice, apple juice, 2 types of cereal, toast, fruit, mini muffins.
The staff were friendly and held our bags after we'd checked out as we didn't have to leave the city until later in the day.
The hotel is a $6 taxi cab ride from the train station (30th St Station) and we could walk to most of the places that we wanted to go from the hotel.
We felt safe at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street to avoid street noise

“Good for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

For the price (sub $100) at this location what can you expect? I will have to say, this place was pretty nice. The room, with two beds, was HUGE. Not just by city standards, but by regular hotels standards, very impressed with that. The front desk staff was nice and the room was clean. The only complaint, and this has nothing to do with the hotel, but there was a jackhammer going outside our window until 2AM. Then next day they started at 5AM, so we didn't get a solid night sleep during our entire stay. The front desk was immensely apologetic and we saw the front desk person pleading with the workers outside to stop at 1AM but they were having none of it. Either way, it won't be like that forever, but if you're staying in the coming days it could be a factor. I will definitely return to this hotel if the price stays below $100.

“Bad service, filthy room and extremely loud”

First thing i noticed when arriving in my room was the nice fresh smell of foul odor, after talking in the fresh air i did a walk around and saw how dirty the curtains were and how out dated the room was. I wasn't satisfied so I went downstairs and brought it to the attention of a miss louie and she informed me that all the rooms were booked and she couldn't do anything for me with a rude attitude and silly smirk. The only thing that is good about this hotel is the location but its location is also its downfall because its tough trying to sleep. If this place was cleaned up and sound proofed it would be very appealing, but you would also need to train your staff on customer service or hire new staff. So I gave Rodeway one star because they wouldn't let me give them a half star.

Hello Sir,

I am writing you in reference to the recent review that you left. I am wondering when you stayed at our hotel because we always notate complaints and I do not remember this issue being bought to my attention. I find it to be a bit odd that you referred to me by my last name when I wear a name tag with only my first name. It sounds as if you either asked for my name or were given my business card. Either way please kindly contact me directly at the hotel so that we can review your stay and welcome you back for a future date with a 25% discount. Thank you and Safe Travels.

I'm not a complainer, but I just stays at possibly the worst hotel in my life. I booked room online for$176 at this hotel for a meeting. I think they give me the last room available and it was on 7th floor and the elevator goes up to 6th and at least 50 year old. They didn't inform me not to press the elevator switch to open the door and I was stock in the elevator it was so tiny that after 2-3 minute I feel breathless and desparately trying to open the door and injured myself and thought that this is the end. To end , the buildings very old, and not in a quaint sort of way, just old. it's unbelievable that in this day a hotel of this standard exist. My room was very hot, and only way to control the heat is to open the window. I will say that the guy at the front desk is a good person but can't do anything. The morning breakfast was a very light continental, not horrible but unattended and nothing special. I might have stayed overnight at the airport.

“A pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We were attending an Eagles game and were looking for a place to stay downtown but reasonable.

The location is within walking distance to everything - shopping, historic sites, numerous places to eat, and the subway. The hotel is old but clean. Our room was big, clean and comfortable.

The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Great place for someone on a budget and not fussy.
