This Marriott hotel is every bit what we expected from a Marriott hotel. The lobby was clean and check-in was smooth. Everybody from the check-in personnel to the valet were very courteous and pleasant. Room was clean. The bathroom was clean, everything was functional. My only complaint is that the pillows were too thick and hard for me (I have neck and shoulder problems), but I wonder if it had something to do with my room preferences versus their standard issue pillows.
The Reading Terminal Market is right across the hotel and saved us a bundle by buying local Philadelphia fare without having to spend on trendy restaurants. After all, when my family travels, we prefer checking out low key joints that are the locals' favorite. Pat's and Geno's cheesesteaks were about 20 mins car ride. The Phil Museum of Art and the Franklin Institute Museum were about 10-15 mins drive away, local traffic factored in. Have good walking shoes and it's about a 30 min walk to the Liberty Bell.
You do have to pay for valet parking though, but this doesn't surprise me as this is a city hotel. I booked this hotel via Marriott.com, and with the valet parking added to nightly rate, what we paid was still relatively cheaper than NYC or DC hotels.
