“The best mountain bike and ski destination ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

I spend over 50 nights a year here and it is so worth being in this location. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The buildings are older but that is the charm of the place. Where else can you go and step out your door and have the best skiing and mountain biking I have ever experienced. It is great for families and this is our prime vacation spot! The staff make the experience very enjoyable!

“Fine if you just want to ski”

If you book the promo, you will get a room that has decent bedding and overall nice features. The employees don't seem to have any hotel industry training, so don't expect major service, which is fine in a mountain town, but they were rude and not that cool, the front desk chick was eating cereal and the store chick was not friendly either. The room had a light bulb out and the heater was very old underneath a desk, so kind of hard to dry your boots and gloves, but used the laundry room dryer in the parking garage for a 1.00. The 20 addtl resort fee is lame considering every other hotel offers the same amenities, but the ski check in the lobby was useful and the free dvds were cool and parking is covered. The yodler had a new menu that was tasty and the building is from switzerland and pretty cool if you like zermatt. There is no party up there, but its good if you just want to go to bed early and get fresh pow and you dont have to fight for parking every morning and your room is right there if you want make your own lunch or try the wiener wrap or ham and cheese croissant from the hotel store, cheaper than the main lodge. Prob will stay there again if its dumping.

Room Tip: Room was 3rd floor over parking garage, has elevator. never heard any neighbor noise, view was facin...

“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I don't know why some people complained, I spent 4 nights in a 5 day sking trip this winter (jan 2012) and found the hotel very good. It has nice warm rooms, friendly and servicial staff, and the ski gear valet is very useful and confortable. The hotel is away form town but it's in front of the lifts and runs, so taht is great.
The only cons I would share is that food is expensive and we prefered to have breakfast and lunch accross the street.

Room Tip: I would say ask for a room in fron of the runs. If you don't want noise then ask for rooms close...

“Watch out for the fees”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I booked three nights at the Mammoth Mountain Inn on the basis of a promotional $99 midweek rate. In the last screen before you actually book the room there is a small check box acknowledging a $20 per night "resort fee." I went ahead an booked, thinking I would still be getting a relative bargain. I wish I had gone elsewhere.

First, the resort fee: If it isn't optional why isn't it included in the room price? Their paperwork indicates that the resort fee covers internet access, jacuzzi, exercise room, and ski valet service. Many hotels in Mammoth Lakes offer all of those services except the ski valet as part of their posted price. The only one of those services I actually used (or was interested in) was internet access. Practically every motel now offers free wifi, so even $5 a night is a lot for internet.

I know that many hotels now charge resort fees, but I for one find them exceedingly objectionable.

In addition to the resort fee I find that my bill includes a $1.00 "MMCF Donation." I was never asked if I wanted to make a donation, nor do I have any idea what MMCF stands for. However good the cause may be, it isn't a donation unless you have a choice.

Finally the accommodations. The room was serviceable but basic. No microwave or mini fridge. The ice machine in my building was broken, but they did fix it promptly after I complained. The sound isolation between floors isn't great. I was downstairs from a platoon of Marines doing winter training. They started clumping around at 6:00am every morning. Not a problem for me, I wake up at 6:00 anyway, but you might want to ask for a room on the top floor if they put you in the Yodler building.

Altogether I felt that I paid way too much for what I got.

“Horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We were on honeymoon and our travel agency booked this hotel for us. It is on top of the mountain, quite far from the city and in the middle of nowhere so it might be nice in winter as it is in front of the lifts but in summer you really feel far away from everything. But this, alone, would not have been a problem. When we checked in there were some 4 or 5 young receptionists busy talking between themselves and it was not easy to get their attention. When we succeed in doing so, we ended up getting a room with only one queen bed (while 2 queens were booked for us) without, from the girl there, the slightest trace of trying to be nice or maybe upgrading our room as we were on honeymoon. She seemed she just wanted to have us dealt with soon so that she could come back talking with her colleagues. The room was in an awful dependance, with view on the parking lot and noisy maintenance taking place in the neighboring rooms. The room itself was cramped and quite dirty (the paper basket still contained trash from the previous hosts), the bathroom was totally made of plastic and was the worst I have probably ever seen. The only good thing was the outdoor heated pool. I am still wondering why, with an empty hotel, they happened to give us the most awful room ever in the horrible dependance! I can't comment about the restaurant as we stayed well away from it and went eating downtown. Most amazing thing, you have to pay a "resort fee" in addition to the room!
