I stayed here for 2 nights and paid $47 per night (I consider that to be an excellent price). Although I arrived early at 12:30 PM (normal check-in time is 3:00 PM), they were very friendly and let me check-in early. Their outdoor pool was great and the suite I had was large and fully equiped . The parking lot was full later ( a good sign in these times) and their free breakfast was very good with an extensive selection (11 out of 10). I have stayed in several neighbourhood hotels to this one in recent months and I consider this Hawthorn to be better than some of the other places in the area. No ... it's not a brand new facility but I felt it was fine.

first of all, i rarely write reviews. but this time i must. we stayed here one night because our power was off due to a storm. when we arrived, we discovered that the room reserved for us was on the second floor, even though i had requested an assessible room. in fairness, the clerk talked to the manager and switched rooms for us. all staff were very pleasant.

when we entered our room, there was a musty, dirty smell. the carpet was not clean and there were stains on the couch. we checked the bed and found the sheets to be clean. but when we showered, we discovered the towels were musty and dingy. we decided to 'make do' because we were exhausted from the aftermath of the storm.

the bed was soft and squeaky. it was difficult to move, once in bed, because the mattress was so worn... no support.

we left early in the morning, not wishing to have their breakfast. honestly, i was concerned about the cleanliness of the dining area and food if they were like the room. i want to be clear, i did not check out the dining area. i just didn't want to take any chances.

i suggest passing this place up for one of several hotels in the immediate area.

This hotel has seen better days and seems more like a slightly run down apartment complex. The main bathroom yellow wall paper was peeling and several base tile were missing, the bed was saggy, towels and sheets worn and not sure they were entirely clean, one of the windows was entirely opaque(bad seal), the ceiling had popcorn texture with dust balls, etc. Overall not what I expected for a review rating of 4 stars; although the price was good I'd rather have spent a little more for a Hampton. On the positive the staff was friendly/competent, the free breakfast was average, it seemed like a safe location.

Room 224 and possibly others was terrible. Upon entering the room, I was met with 50 degree temperature. The thermostat was set at 50 with the air conditioning going full blast. Initially, I thought the houskeepers just wanted to cool down in 90+ degree heat and forgot to turn it down. I was wrong! As the room warmed up, the odor of mold became very strong. There appears to have been water damage to this room because under the carpet, the floor was badly damaged and created an uneven surface to walk on. In the morning when I had the aid of daylight, I could also see water stains running down the walls.

If this wasn't enough, the living room couch and chair were so old, worn and stained that they belong in the trash.

Surprisingly in this era of customer service and customer satisfaction, I made all of these details known in a nice way but never received so much as a phone call from the location manager. That speaks volumes to me!

Check your room BEFORE giving your credit card and confirming your stay!!!
