“Please - choose a different hotel!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

This stay was possibly the worst hotel experience I have ever had! We booked the hotel on vacation because was very close to the Boonshoft Museum and, more importantly to our boys, it had an indoor pool. Our 4 and 5 year old LOVE to swim and we had talked about this being an opportunity to swim in the pool. We should have known things would not go well when we pulled up to the hotel and the front door was blocked with a "Wet Paint" sign but no arrows showing where to enter! After being checked by a less than friendly staff member (and wondering why with only six cars in the parking lot - another sign - we were on the third floor!), we made out way to our room. The room was clean at least. However, we ran out of kleenex and toilet paper, the only coffee was decaf and when my husband requested caffeinated, he was given a bag that when opened was only grounds with no filter! But there was worse to come - we all put our suits on to go down to the pool, only to find it completely unusable!!! We are met by one kind gentleman (staff I think or maybe former staff) who explains that new management has taken over and the old management had let some things go, like to pool. The pump has just been taken out to be fixed and the pool is closed! That sure would have been a nice thing to mention to us as we checked in!! (Note: My husband did complain to the front desk about this and ask for a refund. They agreed to charge us less for the room. That refund has still to show up on our credit card statement!) My five year old just put his head down on the bed when we returned to the room. And since there was no Disney or Nickelodeon channel in the cable package - there was absolutely nothing appropriate to watch on TV as a consolation. There was no "Do Not Disturb" sign for our door and when we asked for one, we were told they were all gone (really?) and then rudely informed our room would not be cleaned until after we checked out. While the breakfast was alright, we were beyond disappointed with our stay will be contacting Country Inn and Suites to inquire about our refund and share our concerns. And from reading the recent reviews here, I see we are not alone!!

Room Tip: Go to another hotel to get the best room!

“First bad experience with Country Inn & Suites”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

Here is what I reported to their survey:

1. Upon entering room, 2 chairs were on top of table.
2. Room smelled musty.
3. To flush toilet, had to lift lid on tank and pull up on flapper/vertical seal.
4. Wireless internet did not work at first. Guy at front desk said that he would reset and call me after complete. He never called back. Was able to connect after trying again after 30 minutes.
5. TV had greenish tint on every channel.
6. When checking out to catch early morning flight, night auditor was not at desk. Showed up just when we were getting ready to leave due to cutting it close at airport.

Only item I reported was the internet issue. Didn't bother with the rest as my feeling that I would end up getting more frustrated in dealing with the staff.

Have been pleased with Country Inns in the past. This was my first unfavorable experience. Will look more closely at other options in the future.

“I would not stay here again - and I don't reccomend it to anyone.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

We checked in with our online reserved rate and were assigned to room 324. Upon arriving at our assigned room, there was extremely loud music coming from the room and we hesitated about opening the room door. We did, however open the door and things then went from bad to worse. There was a strong odor of cologne, so strong in fact we had to open the window to be able to breathe. We turned off the blaring alarm clock, and noted a lack of screen in the window, one of the beds was turned down and a pillow was missing. There was also a collection of used toiletries, (toothbrush, soap, etc.) in the bathroom trash can. Feeling unsafe and uncertain, we returned to the lobby and were directed to another room, 304.

When we arrived at our new room, we found there to be no overwhelming odor and the beds were made and complete. This was a great relief and as we were completely exhausted, we opted to keep the room. Upon further stay however, I regret doing so. Once we were settled in the room, we found the front fascia of the vanity to have slipped, exposing the pressboard behind, paper towel adhered to the ceiling and odd lumps of what I can only guess was caulk in the corners of the bathroom. During the duration of our stay, not once did we receive housekeeping services despite being gone all day for each day of our stay. No one entered our room at any point to empty trash or collect used towels or make beds. No one. This is despite one of the maids approaching us and demanding why we were not out of our room on Saturday. This was the day we had checked in and we advised her we were there until Monday. She then said oh, ok, well, someone will be in to service your room shortly. Obviously, this was not factual at all.

We did try to make use of the pool and whirlpool in the facility as well and were actually more than a bit disappointed by the experience. Upon arrival, we found no pool towels and when we went to the front desk to ask for some, we were told there were none and someone must have stolen them all. What? Yikes. We were given a few bath towels and went back to the pool area. Upon closer look we felt VERY insecure in using the pool as there was a light that should have been secured in the deep end of the pool which had floated out and left to float in the pool. We contacted the desk again and the response we received was they were aware. Hmmm... Then we tried to use the whirlpool and surprise, surprise, the whirlpool did not turn on. We stayed for about 15 minutes and then dragged our very disappointed 10 year old back up to the room.

Now onto breakfast. I am not sure how semi rotten fruit and tin foil bits worked into the powdered eggs qualifies as a proper breakfast. My son was disappointed in the repeated lack of apple juice and the 20 minute wait to get waffle batter for the waffle maker when we arrived for breakfast.

Finally, on our second night, we entered by the back door and while the indicator light on the lock showed red, we were able to enter the hotel without issue. We then proceeded to our room where we found the key did not work in our door, so my husband went down to the desk to see what the issue was. It was at this point we were harassed by a couple of younger guests who were video taping us repeatedly outside our room while we waiting for the key. We were then video taped again while we were using the ice machine on the main floor. This severely disturbed our son as the people who were harassing us were unwilling to leave us alone and were able to continue undeterred. So now, we know the hotel is not secure and we were uncomfortable with our safety. Not a great take away.

I tried contacting the hotel directly and never received any response at all, let alone an apology. As the singular positive note, when I contacted the corporate office of Country Inn and Suites, they were apologetic and did try to help.

“Extremely disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

Stayed here back in May while at my son's soccer tournament and it was pretty good, what a difference a couple of months make though. This time we were there for a softball tournament in Dayton, reserved several rooms for the team. Check in was no problem, clerk was a little frazzled due to the person on the next shift hadn't shown up yet and she had things to do. Room seemed clean, just warm because a/c was not running, beds comfy, that was on Friday, things changed drastically from there. After a long day of softball on Saturday, I get to the room at 11:00 PM, room had not been cleaned, beds had not been made. Trash was emptied, used towels were gone but not replaced. Went to front desk to get some, was told that they had none and had no explanation as to why the room was not cleaned except that the housekeeping crew was new and the hotel was under new management. I had also told the clerk that there was a problem with the a/c, leaking water as the the carpeting soaked. That was ignored by them. Finally after midnight I was able to get 2 towels and washcloths for the next day.
Oh yeah, some from our group complained of evidence of bedbugs, were moved to 5 different rooms before they found the room to be okay. That room had no bedbugs, but the shower didn't work.

“DON'T STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

Because of our positive experiences with another Country Inn & Suites we made reservations at this hotel. We got to the hotel around 4 p.m. and checked in. Got to our room and discovered someone else was already in the room. Went downstairs and the desk clerk told me a couple of times that it wasn't his fault. I'm sure it wasn't his fault, but he was there representing his company and he should of apologized instead of thinking himself. So I got our new key and went to a new room. The room was musty smelling and warm. We hoped that by getting the a/c on that would help. Also the air vent near the ceiling had a mold problem. We left for dinner letting the desk clerk know that the room was musty smelling, but we would give the a/c a chance to maybe help. We got back to our room and the room was still warm and musty. We were given a new room. I barely walked into the room and could smell mold. It was awful. I would recommend that you stay far away from this hotel.
