“Clean, functional”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We first went through St. Mary's a couple years ago on the way to Florida. I was totally charmed by it and intrigued by Cumberland Island. So we returned. After a little research, there really aren't many options for places to stay here, we chose Cumberland Island Inn & Suites and booked the 2 night special.

The property is older, not old, guessing maybe1970's, and the rooms have been updated not too long ago. Nothing terribly fancy but very clean and functional. The floors aren't carpeted and I've really grown to appreciate that. Don't have to wonder about what might be on the floor that you can't see, not to mention how long it's been there. Bed was comfortable, bathroom functional, again nothing special but quite adequate.

One thing to keep in mind, it's located outside the old historic waterfront area and not walking distance from it.

“A great deal!”

When looking for lodging near Cumberland Island, GA, I came across a very good deal on the Internet. It cost $200 for a 2-night stay, which also included round-trip for 2 on the ferry (you have to make separate reservations on the ferry and give them the code), and a $40 voucher for Borrell Creek restaurant (which was delicious!) right across the street. I thought it might be too good to be true - but we were pleasantly surprised! The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent - right down the street from the ferry dock and across the street from the Borrell Creek restaurant. Nothing negative to report. The room was large enough and came with a microwave and refrigerator, which is always nice to have. Breakfast was adequate - we don't eat huge breakfasts anyway.

Definitely give this place a chance if you don't have to be totally pampered and enjoy good, basic accommodations. The doors do open to the outside, but I always felt safe. The surrounding area is just fine.

Room Tip: Get a room towards the back of the property for a quieter spot.

“A very reasonable place for the family.”

If you want to visit the small city of St. Marys, GA for a few days, a week or more; the Cumberland Inn is the place to stay. It is off of I-95 appx. 7 miles and minutes to the Florida state line. It is convenient to the dock in the peaceful and charming City of St. Marys.

Also, there is the nearby Kings Bay Naval Sub Base. You can't get on base without proper ID, but the kids will love seeing the real-life sub coming out of the ground at the main gate.
When you're finished looking around each day, the Cumberland Inn offers you the comfortable, relaxing and peaceful environment your entire family will enjoy.

Their rates are "by the day" or if your visit will be longer, they offer "weekly rates" at a discounted rate. If you are a disabled veteran, be sure to mention that too; because they will offer a discounted rate especially for you! They have suites that will suffice the needs of any small family environment. You will be able to choose to fix dinner in your own room; or to visit the nationally named resturants up the road.

Before you make your motel reservations anywhere else, I highly recommend you contact the Cumberland Inn and Suites before you do!

Room Tip: Rooms toward the back are closer to the pool / picnic area.

“Comfortable, standard room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

Nothing spectacular and nothing horrible. Breakfast was pretty weak, even for free/included continental.

“2nd Stay at Cumberland Inn and Suites”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

As noted in my heading, this was my second stay at this motel. We had a coupon from one of the booklets found at interstate visitor centers, and the hotel honored the coupon. Check in was quick and efficient, though we found the receptionist somewhat icy. The room was large with many cable TV channels and ample towels. A main plus is the location--it is probably the only economical motel so close to the Cumberland Island ferry; and it is located right next to a large grocery, where C.I. campers can stock up. The main "con" was the dirty coffee pot (which hadn't been cleaned since the last use). The "exercise room" had only 4 machines, though these were in working order.
