“Truly One of the Grand Lodges of the National Park System”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

If you are planning to visit Crater Lake in southern Oregon, make a reservation at this lodge. In fact, plan your trip around the dates for which you can book this lodge! It can be tough to get a reservation here, even in the low season! Because once you arrive at the crater rim and see the views that the Lodge provides in many of it's guest rooms, it's dining room and veranda, you will regret not being able to stay here and view the lake through the changing light of day, dusk, night and dawn.
We enjoyed dinner and lunch in the dining room, where the food was excellent and the service attentive. We also liked having the gift shop and snack bar a short walk away along the rim. It made for an easy morning walk for breakfast with a spectacular view.
The rooms were comfortable with just enough of a hint of history in furnishing styles to suggest the ancestry of the building, without it ever feeling that we were in too rustic of a hotel. The Lodge was a real highlight of our road trip.

Room Tip: Rim view of course!

“Food Poisoning at Crater Lake Lodge”

Stunningly rude service, very poor quality food, how is it possible to get steak so badly wrong? Ended up with getting food poisoning. They never even bothered to respond to my numerous complaints. Our recommendation - avoid the place.

“Amazing location!”

We stayed at Crater Lake Lodge for 2 nights, Oct. 12 and 13. This lodge is awesome, the great rooms and dining room, outside verandas beautiful. Our weather was superb so we could hike during the day and have great views of the lake and surrounding mountains. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Lodge and the food was good. My duck was a little tough on the first night, but breakfast both mornings was excellent and we really liked the ambience. Our regret was that our room was small and the bed awful, lumpy and bouncy. We had a lake view but in retrospect wish we'd gone with 2 beds and more space. The Lodge was clean and the staff superb. Everybody was helpful and nice, and we met some charming people on hikes and at the hotel.

Room Tip: If you don't care about a lake view, get a room with 2 beds and, hopefully, more space.

“Cozy and comfortable!”

This lodge was everything I imagined. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The common areas were my favorite and the viewing of Crater Lake was spectacular. We went to the grocery store and bought some food for our cooler so we had snacks and lunch for our hiking excursions. This can cut costs tremendously since one is paying around $200.00 per night. I will definitely stay at any National Park lodge.

Room Tip: This lodge books up a year in advance so plan accordingly.

“Beautiful Crater Lake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

We really wanted to visit on two weekdays but could only get reservations for the week-end of Oct 7 and 8, 2011. That turned out very well as the weather up to our stay included 10" of snow. The lodge was beautiful with bark covered pondorosa pine walls in the Great Hall. Rusic carved lamps and comfortable seating. I can't imagine how you would get a seat in either the Great Hall or the dining room in the summer. It was nice to have a light meal in the Great Hall when we arrived but there was only one chair left and I sat on a very hard, cold but wide windowsill to have a drink and soup.
The room was exactly what we expected and had a terrifc view of Crater Lake. One of the queen beds had the duvet on sideway and my friend could not get it up to her chin until we remade the bed. I mentioned it to the hotel housekeeped in the hall the next morning and it was fixed when she made up the room. But at 200+ a night we expected better. One wonderful view from the room was the sun rising over the rim of the caldera the following morning. Made the whole experience very special.
We were very pleased with the dining room and the food was pretty good but not excellent. What was excellent was the service from the warm and thoughtful hostess to the wait staff. My garlic mashed potatoes at dinner were served cold and replaced immediately by our server and unfortunately the replacement was cold too so I just let it pass. The restaurant features all food and wines Oregoneon and that was a nice touch. Breakfast and lunch about the same with OK food and a great staff. Very expensive.
Although the east rim was closed due to snow we had a spectacular day to see the lake and surrounding area. Nice visit all in all for a two day vacation.
