Shame on me for not making reservations early, but I wasn't sure which hotel some friends would be staying at, until we all arrived. They were quickly attended to, while I tried to make a reservation. The desk clerk that evening said the rate was $129 - There were at least a dozen vacancies, but not all room types were available. When I asked for the AAA rate, he said - "Oh, I give everybody the AAA rate - It's $129". I explained that I had seen the rate for this hotel and others online, and it was $116. He said he couldn't offer that. He motioned to the computer in the lobby, so I went to make an online reservation. As I sat down to use the computer, he sneered that "the internet has been down." Eventually, I was able to make a reservation on my phone for $116. I wrote down the reservation number, and then I had to wait while he explained every room type to someone on the phone. Then some other people came up behind me, and he serviced their needs before addressing my check-in (which all in all, took 45 minutes). During the check-in process, he said "You did all this work for $3...I was offering you $119" and "...you didn't hear me offer you $119?" I won't stay at this hotel again, and I will avoid all La Quinta hotels. I recommend that you hire better receptionists, or others will have the same opinion I do.
