“An Experience Unlike Any Other”

I have been to Orgeon Trail Wagon Train several times during the past 20 years, and each time is more enjoyable than the last. The food os excellent without fail, and the entertainment is first class. No where else can you experience the old west in this fashoin. The site lies in a beautiful valley, surrounded by impressive hills and bluffs. I have never seen stars so bright ar a sky so clear as here. Also as an added bonus, Chimney Rock is illuminated each night. On clear nights, it appears to float in the darkness. I would reccomend this destination and the entire North Platte Valley who is within 100 miles. It is easily worth the drive from the interstate. Besides Orgen Trail Wagon Train, the valley boasts several beautiful golf courses. Most of these are fairly cheap, and are located next to quiet little farming communities, making them ideal getaways for anyone. Any of the several small communities that dot the valley offer a wide range of activities throughout the year, with hospitality to match. When school is in session, enjoy small town athlectics at its very best. During the summer, the views of growing crops and sounds of kids playing at the swimming pool creates sensations and moods that only can come from a small town. If ever there was a place to get away from the hurries and worries of everyday life, this is the place.

“Wouldn't choose this activity a 2nd time”

We were excited to take a covered wagon ride along the actual Oregon Trail and enjoy a genuine chuckwagon experience. When we arrived, we discovered we were the only family signed up that day, and my husband wasn't thrilled, because we had to be "on" for the hosts vs. enjoying the activity somewhat anonymously. We felt awkward and he kept commenting sarcastically "what a great idea this was!" The hosts (who actually lived on the property) took us on a brief (very brief!) wagon ride on their property (supposedly "the Oregon Trail consisted of many trails nearby") where we couldn't have covered more than a 1/8 mile total. The hosts were friendly and accomodating and the food was pretty good and the amounts generous, but the kids didn't want steak (hamburger would have been better for them) and the green beans were too spicy for them (although my son loved the homemade ice cream). The worst part was that because we ate outside, we were absolutely inundated by flies constantly landing on our food and flying about our faces. I'm positive that I ate several! When my son not-so-politely complained about the flies, a host did say they had never seen them so bad, but that didn't make us enjoy the meal any better. We ended up asking to pack up the food (which we discarded later), and didn't stay for the campfire sing-a-long (my husband would have divorced me had I suggested he participate in that as the only family). I can't say that the hosts did not deliver what they advertised, they probably did (sans the flies), but it is not an activity we could recommend or would repeat.

Even in the rain this was a most enjoyable experience. The food is fantastic and the company great. Haven't been able to eat a Ribeye since, because it won't be the same. Can't wait to go back!!!!
