Clean large rooms with KING beds. Great made to order breakfast and friendly staff
I travel to El Paso several times per year and have stayed in this specific hotel previously, and it was perfectly fine. During this trip which was business with extended days to visit family. The shuttle driver from the airport was perfect, extremely respectful. I waited several minutes at the front desk before being acknowledged by the front desk clerk. I gave her my name and told her I had just spoken with her when my plane landed. She again walked off and came back in a couple of minutes, 20 minutes after waling into the hotel, she began the check in process. Keep in mind there were no other customers in the lobby. She asked for a credit card, and I told her I would be paying cash. My business account is attached to by bank account and so the card doesn't process correctly, so I always pay cash. She advised that that was not an option. After back and forth and explaining that I had previously done this, she agreed but required a $100 deposit. Frustrated at this point, I agreed. When given a receipt, it made no mention of the cash deposit. I asked for a manager and was told she was the Manager on duty. (she wasn't) Finally I picked up cards for both the front desk manager and the General Manager. I left a message for both. The front desk clerk then gave me $50 back and wrote a scribbled receipt for the other $50 cash deposit. I wonder if I would have gotten any of the deposit back had I not required the receipt. I was then placed in a first floor room with NO view. Most rooms in this hotel have a decent view of the El Paso "mountains". My room was half the size of rooms in that rate range. I stayed 2 nights there, and the second morning, I spoke with the Front Desk Manager who was unapologetic. I asked to be moved to an appropriate room and for the issue to be addressed with the Check in Clerk. I was told that if I was unhappy with the service, I should move to another hotel. Which we did. We spent the last 4 nights at the Hawthorne, which was perfectly fine. On a side note, the Housekeeping staff at the Radisson was exemplary. I will never return to the Radisson, primarily because there seemed to be no concern with loosing a current and future customer
Hotel is located a stones throw away from the airport, and close to a couple restaurants. El Paso is not a city you want to be exploring around just for fun, so I chose to stay close to the airport (also an Air Force base too) for safety and accessibility. This hotel used to be an Embassy Suites, so its a little nicer in certain areas. Rooms are clean, comfy beds, lots of tv channels to choose from (even MTV, Bravo, E! Channel - can you tell I'm a woman? haha).
They have an indoor and outdoor pool - I didn't use the indoor pool but it looked nice. Outdoor pool is nice, but shade covers half the pool almost all the time so make sure you pick the sunny side. Nice hotel gym. This hotel hosts a lot of conferences and meetings almost everyday so parking can be tough sometimes.
Nice front desk staff - the restaurant staff wasn't as nice. Restaurant was also crazy overpriced.
Our stay at this property was marred by one day of intermittent water supply, due to an alleged water main leak. A visual inspection of the immediate area surrounding the hotel, streets, and parking lot made their explanation difficult to believe. Also, notification to housekeeping staff at 3PM to have the room refreshed before our return later that evening at 830PM went unanswered. A request to have the room refreshed at that time resulted in a disappointing "housekeeping is closed at 8PM" reply. Hence, clean towels were requested and brought up in less than 5 minutes.
On the morning of checkout, we went to ask the front desk agent (MARY) if we could be compensated for the loss of water service, and we were met with a scowl. Her response was that it was "out of their control," and she presented us with the front office manager's card saying that we would have to bring our complaint and request her attention instead.
As if this wasn't bad enough, we requested shuttle service to a nearby (3.3 miles) restaurant. I asked MARY to radio the shuttle driver of our request, and after waiting 15 minutes, come to find out that the shuttle driver had to ask MARY at the front desk if it was OK to take us there. MARY said no after leading us to believe that the transportation would be OK, and that we would have to take a cab instead. So we waited for a taxi another 15 minutes, only to pay 10 dollars cab fare that the hotel shuttle driver could have earned. The worse part is that we waited 30 minutes for a 5 minute taxi ride.
After having worked in the hospitality industry personally for 11 years, I have intimate knowledge of the hotel business and their goal of bringing a guest back. Obviously, this is a perfect example of a "REGRETTABLY FORGETTABLE" experience that I will tell the World about.
Luckily for them, I will bring my group business (rooms and meeting space) elsewhere so that they cannot prove once again how unimportant the customer's requests are.
The hotel itself is very clean, which is something I always look for. Almost immaculately so, the staff seem to have quite a bit of pride in their hotel, the management must be doing something right. The location near Fort Bliss and the Airport are very good, close to east side restraunts, and not too hard to get to I-10 makes the location good. The restraunt in the hotel is OK, not a 5 star place, but good food for a reasonable price, if you want more there are a few restraunts in walking distance, so not a big deal. The free breakfast is not a continental crapfest, but a made to order bacon and eggs breakfast, done very professionally and quickly, by very friendly staff members used to lots of busisness people needing to get in and out. Very nice touch I haven't seen in a while to be sure. The rooms are spacious and the rooms are equipped with the sleep number beds, which I can take or leave, but for some it is a plus. The gym is very well equipped for a hotel, with cybex weight lifting machines and treadmills, and elliptical trainers. You can get a good workout here. It also has an indoor AND outdoor pool, as well as indoor and outdoor spas/hottubs. The decor of the hotel is kind of a 1980's vegas thing, and the indoor fountains and waterfall with bridge is a little cheezy for modern travelers, but with the extreme care that the staff takes care of the place it doesn't take away from the hotel. Price is very resonable. Large hotel with meeting rooms available. Only downsides are very minor, and not worth mentioning, like it may require a difficult u turn to get to the hotel from the airport, etc. It is a professional hotel run by professionals that care about the customer. Worth the u turn! What more could you ask for?
