After camping and a long drive we decided to hotwire a hotel and get some sleep. This showed up as 90% recommended so we took it.
Upon check in, I gave my Priority Rewards number and was offered 2 snacks and a coupon for a free drink. That was a nice touch. We then said "we are not from this area. We are from the North, we do not have good Mexican or Tex-Mex anywhere. Where can we go for dinner to get the best Mex or Tex-Mex food around?" (The reason we chose El Paso as our stop for SLEEP). The front desk agent responded with "well, lots of people like to go to P.F. Chang's, it's close by." WTF?!?!?!?! We responded with "P.F. Chang's, the Chinese food chain? <<positive head nod>> We have those at home. We would really like authentic Mex or Tex-Mex." She then said "ok, we tell people to go to Leon's." Thanks.
We then went to our room, which smelled mildewy, so we turned on the AC and exhaust fan, and, sure enough, there was mold all over the bathroom ceiling. But, we were exhausted, so we decided to just go to dinner and let it try to air out. We found some places on our own to try out online. It failed, but, we heard the couple behind us talking about how awful Leon's was...
Anyway, back at the hotel, we settle in to go to sleep and the smoke detector starts chirping. We called the front desk and they send up maintenance. Since the smoke detector is literally on top of the bed, the maintenance guy can't get to it without crawling on our bed, so he just hands us a battery. Awesome. The should have just switched our room. Clearly the hotel was not crowded if we got it on hotwire.
We go to sleep and sleep soundly for about an hour or so until a bunch of people start running up and down the corridor either 1. banging on our door purposely or 2. their vibrations make our door bang. Then I fall back to sleep and am awoken by people screaming loudly at each other. Then I am awoken again, at 4am, by more chirping. Every 15 minutes. I get up and start getting ready for my day around 5:30am. That was not my plan. Sleep was my plan. At 6am I hear someone trying to use a key to get into our room, turning the handle, swiping the card, turning the handle, etc. over and over. I'm sure that wasn't housekeeping at 6am.
On top of no sleep, the mold also made me sick for the next 4 days.
