“Terrible Customer Service - this loyal customer will be looking to stay elsewhere!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

I travel a great deal with work & although the hotel is rather tired/in need of a face life, I've typically chosen to stay at Hawthorn because of the proximity to airport and Ft Bliss.

During my last stay, I left some power charging cables in my room. I attempted to call the front desk & manager several times. After being transferred to housekeeping & being hung up on 3 times by someone I don't think spoke English, I left a message requesting with the front desk requesting a call back from a manager & never got anything. Today I called & was transferred to housekeeping only to find out that they would only mail back my cables if I gave them a credit card number. They could not tell me how much it would cost since they had to fed ex it (so I could figure out if it would be cheaper to buy new cables).

I realize leaving the cables behind is MY fault, but the poor customer service in trying to retrieve these and me having to pay (w.o any estimated cost) - has left me determined to look for another hotel to stay at when I am in the area. By the way, this is the FIRST hotel that has ever charged to mail back something left behind. Even car rental companies will mail back items left behind without charging the customer. (yea I've done that before too)

“Very, very close to airport”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

We stayed here two nights Dec. 5th and 6th. Very close to airport and Ft. Bliss. Although it was close to airport, we were not disturbed by the planes. I only heard them during the day. This hotel is somewhat run down and upgrades are being made. There is a breakfast buffet with the basics and a reception at night that features beer and wine. Many, many restaurants are close by with two nearly in the parking lot.

I can't say anything really great about it but nothing negative either.

“Terrible service, smallest room I've seen in years.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Took desk clerk a full 20 minutes to find my reservation, even after I brought in a printed Hotwire internet copy of my reservation. It was late and my son was tired. Finally found the reservation with the help of the manager at my suggestion. Although my son was with me and my reservation specified that, all they had were one-bed rooms left. The room had, of all things, a large handicapped bathroom, but, ironically, the room was so tight that it would be impossible to get a wheelchair to the bed. There was nowhere to put our luggage but on the minimal floor-space, so we were tripping over it to get to the bathroom. I travel literally several months of the year and am generally not particularly harsh in my reviews, but this place had the smallest room I've seen in at least 8-10 years. I have had far better experiences at Motel 6. Go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get a one-bed room.

“Very Good Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

We arrived yesterday and although check in was a little on the slow side, the hotel has been really great! I needed something close to airport as we have a 6am flight to catch! Today we were able to take advantage of the breakfast which was very complete! The hotel is full so it was a bit crowded and trying to find a spot for myself and two little ones was tricky (perhaps it would have been better to bring the food up to the room). I think the buffet could be set up in a more efficient way becuase the breakfast area is pretty small for the high demand- the food didn´t run out, but there were long lines and scarce tables and chairs. The rooms are on the small side, but even for four of us we were still comfortable, and there is a microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker in the room. The beds are super confy and bathroom is nice. I have had no problems with noise from the airport - our neighbors were a bit noisy but I just turned the air on and that seemed to drown out the noise sufficiently. The free wifi has really good reception. All in all, I am enjoying this hotel and since I got an extaordinary price I am happy! I even recommended it to my dad who had business here and his king bed room on the first floor was very nice, and it seems more spacious! Oh yeah! The kids enjoyed the pool too.

“Great value in a safe area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

We stayed two nights at this hotel while our daughter was attending orientation for TTU. The property is older, but is in very good condition, with updated bedding, towels, and electronics. The breakfast is more than continental, with scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage (depending on the day), tortillas, refried beans, and potatoes available each day. Lots of military and Border patrol folks there, and we had a very quiet room on the east side of the building. The air conditioning held up under the heat, and we never heard a plane! A very nice stay-would recommend to anyone. Our room, 138, had some rust stains around the tub drain, which is the only complaint I can give. The wifi signal was wonderful!

Room Tip: rooms on the East and North side of the building will be cooler, but the view isn't as nice.
