“Cozy neighborhood, great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

New York's Upper West Side is a great neighborhood where people actually live. Yet, the Lucerne is close to the usual tourist spots: Broadway theaters, Lincoln Center, Central Park, museums, restaurants--all within walking or easy subway or bus transportation. The staff is friendly and courteous, the rooms are immaculate, so what more can anyone want? It's not the most luxurious hotel, but it's a great value for a splendid experience.

Room Tip: Inner rooms are quiet, but the windows are interior--the view is only of other windows.

“Great hotel in a terrific neighborhood”

On our last trip to Lucerne was in July 2011. Hotter than you know what outside but the aircondition worked beautifully. I love the UWS and hate to be hanging out in touristy areas of anywhere. The restaurant in the hotel is lovely and next door is a great fluff and fold service. Extremely convenient to subway which is one block over on Broadway. Can get anywhere quickly. My 10 year old son and I made a point of walking by the animal clinic down the block to see the kittens in the window. We still talk about the little black and white kitty who was there all week and finally got adopted on the last day. Like I said, a real neighborhood experience.

“Will definitely stay here again...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed at The Lucerne for 12 days from end December 2011 through to the second week of January 2012. Apart from an initial disappointment that our room was on the 5th floor, and not higher (as had been promised during long phone conversations when making the booking), our stay here was first class. The lower room wasn't a problem. We were concerned about noise - the room looked on to Amsterdam, but it wasn't much of an issue.

As we were in NYC to get married, we'd booked a King Suite, which no doubt added to the comfort of the stay. I did get to see inside a regular room on one occasion, I'd have to agree with other reviewers, that this type of room seemed quite small. But then again, this is New York and you don't get big hotel rooms without paying a premium.

Our suite was plushly furnished; the bed was extremely comfortable; the quality of the supplied toiletries was above average; and small touches such as the coffee-maker (the type that takes coffee capsules) added to the enjoyment of the stay. Housekeeping was uniformly good and left nothing to be desired.

I'd like to make special mention of John, one of the front desk managers, and Ron, the concierge. Both of them added the personal touches that make a hotel stay memorable - the things that make you feel you're at home. I was also surprised that there was no charge for printing documents, which was a nice touch.

In addition to the accommodation comfort offered by The Lucerne, the hotel is very well located, being on West 79th, between Amsterdam and Broadway. With the West 79th Street subway within a few minute's walk, it's easy to get downtown, especially to the theaters and city centre.

We look forward to returning to NYC later this year, and will definitely return to The Lucerne.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We recently did an overnight trip to New York City and stayed at the Lucerne Hotel. We drove into the city and found the hotel easily. Valet parking was available, pricey but so is all parking in NYC but it was convienient and efficient. The hotel was fine, the staff friendly and helpful and the room was very nice indeed. The best part was the location. We walked easily to Central Park and to other areas that interested us. We will most definitley stay there again.

“Love this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I had stayed at The Lucerne years ago when it was a Barnard dormitory called The Lucerne. Being that I was in town for a Columbia reunion, I figured it was a good place to stay for nostalgic reasons. I could not have been more pleased with this place. First of all, the location is divine. It is off Broadway so is not nearly as noisy as something on B'way but easily walkable to everything on the upper west side. Second of all, the rooms are beautiful - clean, classy with nice linens and a great mattress. Third of all, the price is incredibly fair. I got a $170 for a queen non-smoking room. You can't beat that. Other bonuses are the gym on the second floor and a great restaurant connected to the lobby, NiceMatin. All in all, I highly recommend this place. It has all that you need for a great stay in NY - location, cleanliness, value AND, how could I forgot, great doormen who were super friendly!
