I stayed one night by myself, mainly due to the hotel's proximity to Mt Sinai Hospital (10 minute walk). Friendly and helpful staff. Small neighborhood grocery right next door, with plenty of restaurants on Madison Avenue, ranging from upscale (Sarabeth's) to inexpensive. I went to Jackson Hole (chicken sandwich and fries) and Yura's (breakfast) and was happy with both. My room was small, with windows facing a small dark courtyard (i.e., no view). Hotel has an old feel to it. Room furnishings okay, but carpeting was showing its age. Even in winter, I had to run the fan on the window AC unit to get some air circulation in the room. Bathroom was absolutely spotless and in great shape. If you're claustophobic, you probably won't want to stay here more than a couple nights.
