“Home Away from Home”

If you find yourself traveling to NY for business, as I do on a monthly basis, The Towers at the Waldorf=Astoria is the perfect place to call your "home away from home".

The front desk staff is always welcoming and helpful. The bell staff all remember me by name and welcome me back. I usually stay in a #R room which is perfect. Bedroom, dressing room, and large living area with great views. As others have said, it is not modern, but if you appreciate history, comfort and personalized service this is a great place. Room service is always prompt and attentive as is the housekeeping staff.

Make sure and look for your personalized stationary on the desk...even if you don't use it, the small touches make a big difference.

“A living icon to 1930's New York”

If you want brand new and hate old buildings with original features this is not the place for you. This is a place with original bath's, taps, tiles, plate glass mirrors that show thier age, chest of draws with marble tops that matches the bedside tables, years of paint work on the door frames, odd shaped rooms . I feel privileged to stay in what should be considered to be a "must see" on any tour of New York. The staff have all been lovely and service for such a large hotel perfect . My tip would be ask for a room with a view. Don't stay here if you want modern and perfect, this is not for you. I love it and will be back.

“Almost Excellent...”

Stayed over X-mas break so perhaps you can discount some of the letdowns.

The Towers lobby is smaller, and more private. Check-In was brisk, and I was upgraded to Penthouse suite overlooking Roosevelt island. Excellent room, comfortable, plush, everything worked.

Until I looked for the fridge. The room had no minibar. I can understand if a minibar is empty, but no minibar? And with room service quoating a two hour wait due to Xmas, I was stuck. Decided to make the most of my stay.

Boxing day breakfast served in a private room was quite nice.

But avoid the Peacock Alley. If the young Maitre D worked for me, I'd have fired him. He seated me knowing well that I was there for lunch. I sat in his clear view for at least 10 minutes. Not once asked for even a glass of water by super thin staff. I simply got up and walked off and had lunch elsewhere.

Perhaps a name as legendary as The Waldorf can hire some extra staff over the holidays because they simply could not manage the load.

“A magical treat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This was always somewhere I had wanted to stay and worth the splurge! Had a brilliant suite on 39th floor of the Towers part of the hotel and loved being able to treat ourselves. It was really big, with separate lounge, dining room and dressing room as well as of course big bedroom. Bathroom was older style but we felt it was part of the history. We made the most of the suite with room service meals instead of going out - it was too nice to leave! We had a corner suite and the views were magnificent from all rooms.
Only disappointment was breakfast in the executive lounge, we wished we had gone to main dining room. It was small with furniture that was in poor condition and windows were really dirty, spoiling the great view.
We spent time in the main hotel too and some excellent display cabinets with historical photos etc that are very interesting. We also bought the DVD about the history and it is a great reminder of all the special guests and historical events that have taken place there.
Recommend even for just a night for treat!

Room Tip: Great views from corner suites on high floor.

“Holiday Magic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

NYC during the holidays is a fantastic experience and the Waldorf Towers makes it magical. It's a gorgeous, historic hotel with a perfect location to walk to Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue shopping, Central Park and the Empire State Building. The Towers rooms are large enough for a family to stay comfortably and the breakfast and tea in the afternoon are wonderful. The staff is first-rate and completely gracious and helpful. The room manager, Leonie, made sure our room was exactly right, despite a packed hotel. Celso and others at the Concierge desk were a tremendous help in making restaurant reservations for us during a very busy time. Our whole family had an incredible, unforgettable visit to the Waldorf.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors give a great view of the city.
