On the whole this hotel is good enough. The location is everything - on 42cnd and 5 mins to Times Square. And the price can be good. If you get a good deal then its OK. The rooms are a little dated, but I think they have some decent rooms, and some not as good. I think they vary.
The pool area is a nice quite haven from busy NY. If you time it right you might get some sun as well, though it is surrounded by tall buildings.
The worst issue for me was that some of the staff - or maybe as I suspect owners - don't give out a very good impression. Never a smile. Note, I say 'some' of the staff. Our room didn't have a fridge or microwave as we were expecting, so if you want these you may need to make a point of it. On the plus side though, nice big Tellies.

We recently stayed here on a 4 day whirlwind trip to NYC. This hotel was absolutely perfect for our needs. Finding it was easy off the Lincoln Tunnel, parking was a WONDERFUL addition to the room. We were able to check in an hour early (and they allowed us to park even before we were able to check in to make the most of our first day) and start checking out the city. The hotel is wonderful, clean with a microwave and fridge in the room. Very comfortable size. Downstairs and right next door there is a great little deli that was very convenient for breakfast and lunch the day we left town. It also has good coffee and sodas and other snacks for sale. Travel Inn is so close to Times Square (about 4 blocks or so) and only two blocks from the Metro. UNBELIEVABLE for the price we paid. I was nervous (because it was so cheap) but my expectations were far exceeded. I will be returning in a few months and bringing my four year old to see the city and I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

We booked two rooms for our party of five, four of whom were on a first trip to NYC, so wanted to see as much as possible in our 5 day stay. Travel Inn proved to be a perfect location - short walk to Times Square, Theatre District etc. Cross town bus stop outside the hotel and only a short walk to subway and Port Authority bus terminal. We were assigned two large (by NY standards) adjoining rooms - very comfortable and great heating, especially as it was minus 5 one day! The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels and toiletries. Added bonus was having full size fridge and microwave which came in handy after a long day's sightseeing. We would recommend this hotel and hope to return in the near future.

There are many positive reviews, so it should be a no brainer that this is a good hotel. Other than a few cons; such as the rooms having a bit of an "old" look to them, and if you get a room in the back, you may hear a train passing by periodically. Also, the bathroom was small.

Other than that, this is a very solid hotel. First off, free parking. An extreme luxery in Manhattan. Very few hotels have that. You're about a 15 minute walk to Times Square, as well as the subway, meaning virtually anywhere in the city can be reached in decent time. In addition to being near Times Square, you also have the oppurtunity to have a more "New York" feel around the hotel itself, without the ritzy, touristy Times Square area. Also, all amenities worked great, the beds were comfortable and always a plus, the TV had great picture.

Obviously for the great price you can get this hotel for, don't expect a luxerious 5 star hotel, but I'd personally rather save big $ on a hotel and explore NYC, rather than sit around a plush hotel room. This place will not disappoint you.
