“Thoroughly enjoyed the stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Stayed here for three nights for a conference. I didn't get to enjoy the outstanding location very much since the conference agenda was packed but found the property to be top notch. Rooms have small bathrooms you would expect with an older property. The HVAC was also dated since it was unseasonably warm but there was no A/C. Fortunately I opened the window and it was very comfortable. Internet was free if you have AT&T service at home!!! The property is dated but charming and service made up for any shortcomings in the physical plant.

“The Waldorf - Service still counts”

I have to admit I had thought the place would be an outdated stuffy old relic but I was wrong. It is not a Hyatt or Sheraton but that isnt the clientelle they are going for. I think if you want a good location and a piece of New York History and really good service - this is the hotel. it was especially nice the staff were so well trained and sincerely friendly. As for price I think like all hotels you can get a spectacular deal but on the surface it is very expensive - maybe to keep the riff-raff like me away! lol But I did get a good deal anyway. Other than that Beds were comfortable, no bedbugs, clean sheets. modernized bathrooms and old style well kept decor throughout. Lobby is gorgeous.

“Let down”

I have always wanted to stay at the Waldorf ever since I read an article about it in Reader's Digest more than 20 years ago. To say that I was disappointed would be putting it very very mildly. The room that we were in had such a run down feel to. The bathroom fixtures had rust on them. The first day that we were there, one of the blinds got have stuck and cam down partially. The room service must have seen that every day for the next 3 days but didnt fix it. There was no coffee maker in the room. While one was brought up very promptly, the staff didnt replenish the coffee any day!!! One day wen we came back to the hotel in the middle of day, the house keeping staff had seemed to have just finished cleaning our room and the smell of bleach was strong enough to make you gag!

Having said that, I wouldnt have sat down to write my very first reveiw of any hotel because of the reasons mentioned above. I have stayed in better hotels and in much worse hotels. What prompted this review was - this was Waldorf and one of the to-do things on my bucket list. And thats why the expereince was even more disappointing.

“Elegant and romantic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

If you prefer minimalist, ultra-modern décor then this is probably not the place for you. The Waldorf is all about old world charm – big sweeping chandeliers, lovely art deco/1920s style rooms. The bathrooms aren’t super modern, but bright and airy with high-quality fittings and scrupulously clean. A huge bath tub, if like me you like a good soak.

We stayed in a suite which was really luxurious - roomy with lots of period furniture, and helpful staff on hand whenever required. Really tranquil and relaxing, I found the Waldorf the ideal place to catch my breath after the bustle of the city. I’d go back there in a heartbeat.

“Charmed by a charming hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

A grand hotel with a beautiful lobby area and extremly polite and helpful staff. Would like to particularly thank Wayne at check-in who represented the hotel wonderfully. The hotel is ideally located for exploring the city and close to the rockerfeller centre, grand central station and shopping on 5th & Madison.

The rooms are a bit on the small side and our two doubles were more like large comfortable singles but the size issue is to be expected in manhattan especially given this is an old hotel. Bathroom was fine, rooms were cleaned to a high standard (although it did have a strong smell of bleach when we checked in - but at least we knew it was clean ;-))

Breakfast at Oscars in the hotel was delicous with a wide selection of food and drink, set us up well for the day. Enjoyed sipping the house champagne at Sir Harry's Bar in a relaxed atmosphere. Have heard the Pull & Bear is great to eat at but didnt eat there ourselves.

I enjoyed the experience of staying at Waldorf for our first trip to NYC.

Room Tip: There was scaffolding around the building and we asked for a room with a view which was easily accom...
