We stayed for about a week at their executive suite on the penthouse level; it came with an outdoor patio. Room was worth the extra $. BTW, we didn't eat at the hotel, so we can't say how good the food was.
Pros: room was larger than most NY hotel rooms and very clean; great king-sized mattress (real king, btw, not the shrunken king at some hotels) that was just firm enough. Separate oversized shower & tub combo. Larger bathroom. Outdoor patio access via glass sliding doors, lots of natural light, quiet (room was at back of hotel); efficient & courteous staff - extras we asked for came promptly. They stored our luggage with no hassle. Easy booking a car to the airport ($85 one-way transfer, plus tax, tip). And, great location! The hotel is on a quiet street but it's only half-block away from shopping on 5th ave. and both high- and low-end restaurants. It's also only a few blocks from Rockefeller, Times Square, Broadway, MoMA, Central Park, Trump, subway, etc. There's also a food mart around the corner at 55 & 6. We tried out different delis, and as the Peninsula is half-block away, and we splurged on their breakfast buffet twice - yum! Never had problem catching a cab at front of the hotel.
cons: bathroom door does not lock! There's limited counter space around the sink, and only one hard chair and the massage chair in the room. There's a tiny desk and very little room to put your things away. The patio is lovely, but it's shared with the suite next door w/o a privacy wall/fence. Also, the vents would emit smoke odor into our room (I suspect this happened when someone on our floor was smoking in their room).
Honestly, if it wasn't for the shared patio leading to lack of privacy/security, I think I would have given the hotel 5 stars - but it freaked me out that whoever was staying next door could walk over anytime to the glass sliding doors and look in. Further, I noticed the patio isn't enclosed - it seems to encircle the roof level all around the building - we heard someone (we hope/assume it was the hotel security) walk past the glass door at dark, so we assumed others (staff, etc.) had access to that patio area at all times. The sliding glass door didn't look all that secure to me, so that was a major concern as well. If they can fix that, I'd give the hotel 5 stars.
Room Tip: back of hotel seems quieter than front.
