This hotel is very close to being perfect. I stayed here for a week celebrating my birthday. The location is brilliant, literally a 10 - 20 minute walk to major attractions like Times Square, Macy's, Chrylser building. Staff were very welcoming on check in and the room was a lot more spacious than I thought it would be especially for New York! The room was clean too which is a must for me. There's a great big tv and the bathroom is quite nice even though the shower was a bit dated.
We were on the 10th floor which I was pleased about because we had a view of the city plus we didn't hear a lot of trafiic.
The hotel is really close to Grand Central station which can take you everywhere. There are shops near by so buy snacks there and there's a starbucks a few blocks away which is brilliant ...staff were so good they gave me a free coffee and bagel on my last day.

A few slight faults I wasn't that impressed with: The air conditioning stopped working after the third day. I requested champagne to the room on the day of my birthday and never got it. The RARE restaurant is a disaster, staff are so un-welcoming and the food was terrible not to mention people drinking in the bar were making fun of my acent because i'm from the UK. The wifi is way too expensive $13.95 a day is a joke, luckily if you have a laptop or ipad you can get free wifi in the lobby. Doormen expect tips too much and if you don't they'll not bother opening the door for you etc. The walls are pretty thin, we could hear our neighbour arranging dates while he fought with his girlfriend on the phone. A tip of advice too reset the alarm clock when you first arrive. We were woke at 5am the first morning thanks to the person staying previously and could hear the same thing happen next door. Some of the beverages in the mini bar were out of date too. I had a coca cola which was dated 8 months ago.

I would return to the Affinia Shelburne again and would recommend it to people but I would avoid the restaurant.
