We got an excellent promotion deal otherwise we probably would have stayed at another hotel where we have status. I think if we had paid the regular rates, we would have been disappointed.
The location is excellent. Right in the middle of Times Square. We travel to NYC annually and have never stayed right in the middle of the action before. We took the subway from JFK to Times Square and a short walk to the hotel. No need to spend money on a cab and get stuck in traffic.
Upon arrival there was a mix up with our reservation. Took a little while to sort it out, but in they let us check in at 2pm instead of 4pm and made us feel like they were doing us a big favor. They did give us an upgraded room on an upper floor. Our windows had a perfect view of the NYE ball that drops every year. The higher floors had nice views, but the trade off would be the wait for the elevators.
The room itself is decent, but not completely 4 star worthy. The bathroom counter was extremely narrow and could use some updating. I can understand this is prime real estate and the bathrooms need to be minimal, but we've stayed at other hotels in the area in the same class and have seen better. The bed was comfy, but the pillows were terribly low.
The most recent thing I've been looking for in hotel rooms are outlets to charge my gadgets. None beside the bed for my phone/alarm. That meant plugging in by the desk and not having easy access to my phone. Not the end of the world, but a little annoying. Also lack of outlets caused issues with 2 of us trying to charge our cameras, phones, laptops, etc. Took some juggling to make it happen.
We did check out the gym and were impressed with the equipment, but for the number of guest rooms, the size of the gym is tiny. This means you may be waiting for cardio equipment if there are more than 4-5 people in there.
