I don't know how they do it, but the staff at this property are their greatest asset. We travel here a few times a year, only for a a night or two each time, but are made to feel as if we are their very best customer. This time we were celebrating my father's 80th birthday and 10 of us, including 4 children aged 8-12 were involved. We always book the Towers because it is such a tremendous value and the Towers Lounge is a great place to relax overlooking St. Patrick's Cathedral and across town to the west. Staff like Theodora and Sondra in the club are wonderfully kind and attentive and make such an extra effort to make your time there enjoyable. They are to be commended.
Back to this trip: We arrived and were greeted by Ruggero, who has always also strived to provide outstanding service. Imagine our surprise and excitement when he informed us we had been upgraded to one of their 4 Triplex Suites for the occasion! I cannot even begin to accurately describe the beauty of these suites. They have floor to ceiling windows and span three floors-you feel as if you are in your own penthouse/townhouse in NYC! Depending on which suite you are in, you have magnificent views featuring the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, St. Patrick's, etc. It's as NY as it gets. They feature full kitchens, bars, living and dining room with powder room on first floor (as well as a connecting double if necessary) and up a sweeping staircase you will find an additional 2 bedrooms (one king and one double, each with their own luxurious baths) An elevator spans all 3 floors and the third floor is the tops in more ways than one. This features a living room/lounge area with fireplace and a spectacular outdoor terrace that is just too beautiful for words. (We remarked how amazing the space would be in warm weather)
We had a weekend full of busy activities and their concierge services are wonderful (especially Gunter this time). The staff all took time to speak with us as if we are old friends (I suppose we kind of are now) and provided service above and beyond. When there was no more tuna nicoise available for cocktails, they somehow presented a gorgeous freshly made platter of seared tuna-it is truly magical and they deserve such accolades for their persistent, never lacking service.
I cannot understand how anyone can ever fault this property. Construction noise is one thing, but that is beyond their control. But service: We have stayed at top properties around the world including Four Seasons, St. Regis, etc. and I have to say the service here is at least as good if not more so. Granted, we also take the time to recognize and treat them well in return but that is simply to be expected. If you are an experienced traveler, you know when you have received exceptional service and the NYP is at the top of the list in this regard. As far as rooms go, the size is HUGE for NYC standards. The views are considerably better than properties such as St. Regis. Are the rooms a little more dated? Yes, but not out dated by any stretch. The beds are very comfortable with great linens and housekeeping does a beautiful job morning and night to make sure you have everything you need. I have never once had to call down to request extra towels, lotions, etc. The bellmen and doormen like Omar, Papa and Louis are all so very kind and helpful.
So another "Job well done" to the staff at NYP. We are so glad to see the same faces even after the sale. You ALL contributed to a truly memorable and very special trip for my family. One none of us will ever forget. I can't wait to make our next memory again soon! Hands down, the NYP has replaced any other property I've ever stayed at in NY and I am a client for life.
