“Excellent value and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed here for one night only and was very pleased. I was looking for somewhere that was well located for shopping and going out in the evening, nice but nothing fancy and reasonably priced and this ticked all the boxes. I felt for the rate I paid this hotel is excellent value in a city where your money doesn't go very far on hotels. The area felt safe day and late at night which was also important as I was staying here as a female alone.

The hotel room was a decent size, comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was compact but had a good shower and I was surprised by the great Aveda toiletries. Staff were friendly. There were a couple of niggles, the maid knocked on the door at 9am wanting to clean which I didn't appreciate having been out the night before and wanting to lie in and then tried knocking again soon after. I stayed on the 7th floor and did find that there was a fair amount of street noise in the morning from garbage trucks, deliveries etc which once I woke up prevented me from going back to sleep. Also the curtains were very pretty but not very practical. They were white with loads of holes meaning the light came flooding early morning, another proper curtain layer on top would be much better. If I'd paid a lot or stayed here for an extended period of time I could've got a bit annoyed but given the great price for a short stay I can overlook all this.

Room Tip: Stay higher up to get away from street noise. Put a do not disturb sign out if you want to lie in an...

“great for a simple, reliable stay in New York”

I stayed at Hotel Indigo, Chelsea for 2 nights (Feb. 6-8)
It was a business trip. In a nutshell: it is an excellent hotel.
I always wanted to try it out but the price was not right; finally I got an incredible deal for it on Priceline. I really like this area (we call it Chelsea hotel row, between 24th and 29th st) - it is quieter and to my taste, nicer than any other hotel areas in the city – and everything is nearby.

The hotel is well furnished, with good bathroom supplies. Free New York Times and USA today. The rooms are clean, everything was spotless. As a former New Yorker I thought the rooms were of a decent size – so was surprised to read the comments about small size rooms. People should understand that many new hotels (incl. those between 24th and 29th) were built on the place of old buildings, meaning they could go as high as designed but not wider. But for those who can compare - It definitely at least twice bigger than the basic room in Paramount or Hudson ( which are small, even by New York standard)

Really like the fact that they provided cork-screw ( it’s my pet-peeve in all the other hotels where you cannot find it).
Couple negative comments: as in all Chelsea hotels, the elevator is really small – so in a rush hour, you might end up waiting for a longer time ( but it is not as bad as in nearby Holiday Inn, where we ended up walking up and down 12th floor basically every time we had to use the elevator)
The ice machine is in the basement, by the workout room – so if you are on the upper floor, you have to use the elevator (see my previous comment).
And my final negative comment has nothing to do with the services – there are (or, at least were) 2 dead palm trees at the entrance to the hotel. Ugly dead, fitting for a compost pile - not for an entrance to a hotel. The person who takes care of the plants should know that it is go below freezing in NYC and the palm trees do not tolerate freezing temperatures. But what makes it so weird is the fact that the hotel is in the flower district – right across from it they sell healthy palm trees (and more).
But again, it has nothing to do with the services inside the hotel.

My advice won’t be about the hotel - it is about the dining options in the area. Don’t get upset by a poor choice right by the hotel. If you walk just couple blocks east there will be a lot of great places (Eataly one of them). Another thing that we love doing when we stay in Chelsea area – go to Whole Foods on 24th & 7th and get some oysters - they shuck them for free; and their salad bar is always a great place to go when you want something good but have no time for a proper dinner.

“Very nice boutique hotel in Chelsea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed 2 nights at the Indigo. Rooms were small (the usual for Manhattan), but nicely designed in a clean, contemporary style. Some small glitches - minibar wasn't working, and there was no hotel info in the room (restaurant menu, how to work the TV, etc), but staff rectified them quickly. Unfortunately, the rooftop bar was closed for the winter, and the restaurant's hours were truncated as it was undergoing some sort of revamp. No issue for me, as I rarely spend much time in the hotel, but it may be for some. I asked for a room on a high floor to avoid noise and was graciously accommodated. However, the staff was not so accommodating when I asked for a 1 hour extension on my checkout time. A nice security feature: the elevator requires a hotel key to access the floors where the rooms are. I stayed here primarily for the reasonable price ($150/nite for a room w/2 beds - 1 bed rooms were cheaper), but I'd certainly return. About 10 min walk from Penn Station - easy access to Chelsea/Village and midtown.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor (I was on 10th) and I didn't have a problem with street noise (thank you fo...

“Well located. Good size room for New York.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This hotel is very centrally positioned in the Flower District, only c. 5 blocks south of Penn Station. Modern, boutique style to it. There are plenty of good eateries near by. I was put in a room at the back of the hotel as there were roadworks in the front - apparently the back rooms are bigger and I was impressed by the size and overall design. The double bed was huge and there were lots of nice toiletries in the bathroom. The hotel's reception area was a little tired, although there was work being carried to one side so this may be addressed shortly. I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are apparently bigger and quieter

“Downhill”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I've stayed at this property a few times and was disappointed this time. It seems the property has really gone downhill. The front desk was constantly on their phones texting and I was obviously interrupting them. I am a platinum priority member and usually at the hotel they offer free drinks to priority club members...not this time. The room was dirty and only one towel in the bathroom and no wash cloth. I called the front desk for a wake up call and was taken aback when they answered. They were so rude on the phone and answered it like I did something wrong. There's too many great places in the city to stay and I won't be rushing back to this property.
