After reading mostly positive reviews about this hotel, we decided to book it. Big mistake. Our experiences at this hotel almost ruined our time in NYC.
The only positives about this hotel are the location and a few staff members - a few at reception and a Polish cleaning lady who was a gem.
The negatives (and they are considerable):
The single lift was the slowest, tiniest lift ever made and took ages to arrive
The rooms were small and claustrophobic
Our room stank of cigarette smoke even though we had a smoke free room and I was of the understanding that it was a smoke free hotel
The heat in the shower took a very long time to heat up and could often not be regulated
The temperature in the hotel was stuffy
The wi fi in the lobby was useless and unless you sat right next to the window for better reception, was painfully slow
The owner of this hotel is either a mysogynist or just an uneducated rude individual. He continually ignored us even when we greeted him; I inadvertantly dropped my glove at reception one day, when I went to retrieve it about 5 minutes later, the owner was standing right next to it, instead of bending down to pick it up, he pointed to it with his foot and then walked away. When I complained about him shortly thereafter, we found the room key strangely did not work when we returned to our hotel that evening, until I went back down to enquire at reception.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. A great location and a few nice staff members cannot compensate for all the negatives.
East 32nd Street is a bustling street packed with hotels. Book another hotel on the same street and you will get the great location without the myriad of negative issues plaguing this miserable establishment.
Room Tip: Book somewhere else on East 32nd Street.
